They are fracking for natural gas not petrol.

Anyone who thinks fracking will help the price a the pump is delusional. The majority of that natural gas is going to be exported to markets that will pay high dollars. (Just like the Keystone pipeline, which is canadian crude oil sand that will be exported to latin america and has nothing to do with AMERICAN demand)

Its funny someone would say that they clean up, and ONLY leave a well head, some tanks, etc. Go to any out-of-the-way town in Texas that has been previously drilled for oil and see all the rusting well heads and tanks and try to tell the rest of us that oil and gas companies 'clean things up'. Those towns that USED to be in the middle of the oil boom are now completely barren.

There are new laws that ensure that things are cleaned to prevent another man made disaster. The new oil wells are not like the old ones anyway. Now they are just a few pipes with some pressure gages on them.

Right in the middle of it here in Northcentral PA. Our cabin has has gas activity around and on it for the past 5 years in the way of pipelines, wells, water withdrawal facilities, etc., We currently have 1 four acre pad on the ground that has 5 wells on it and are currently being fracked as we speak. We were just up there this weekend, and I took friends around to look at everything. Aside from the horrendous amounts of traffic right now (lots of trucks hauling water for fracking), but the deer were everywhere. Saw several along the pipeline ROWs, and one really solid 8 coming out of the corn not far from the pad.

It's very controversial (fracking that is) around here. So far, our cabin water is still unaffected (we've had multiple tests), and there doesn't seem to be any environmental negative impacts (aside from the loss of trees). I'm personally on the fence with regard to it. I would be MORE for it, if I knew there was a domestic market for it that would help alleviate our dependence on oil. However, most of the gas in the Marcellus shale will see foreign markets more frequently than it will anything here in the US.

With that being said, it SEEMS to be very low impact in terms on wildlife impact.

Like i said previously there are 6 wells on my farm we plant beans right up next the the well heads and the tank batterys next to the road. i will agree that first year is a mess cause they have all the pits and mud everywhere but give it a year to dry and you can till any of there ruts made and turn it back into farmable ground. and yes some fly by night companys leave trash in a burn pile beside the where they are working but if they get caught that is the least of there worries most of them type of companies dont have insurance on there trucks and are not to code on anything. but for the most part after everything dries up its pretty clean

I have lived in central ok my entire life. I have never felt an earthquake before in my life until a couple of years ago. Now it is very normal to feel and hear an earthquake at least once a week. I am a firm believer that this is a direct result of drilling, fracking and waste water injections(which has easily contaminated well water).

True. Our land was drilled and fracked in East KY and other than the gravel road and a storage tank no notable effects.
