hi, i recently bought an used bowtech extreme vft, the guy i bought it from said it shoots 333fps so i took it home and shot with it, it looks like its nowhere near 333fps more like 200fps i use gamegetter x75 arrows there a bit heavy but i dont think thats the problem so does anyone have any ideas? ps: excuse my bad english since im dutch lol
Arrow weight will most definitely affect arrows speed. So will draw weight, draw length, tuning, string accessories, fletching (aggressive helical or offset). Not saying the guy wasn't lying or anything, just remember that advertised speeds are rarely achieved by anyone who isn't specifically trying to do so. Most of us shoot well below the IBO speeds.
I am not sure the IBO on that bow. What happens around here (meaning the area I live in) is people are just ignorant as to what the IBO is and how it works and just assumes the bow is shooting as fast as the IBO says it is.
The IBO on that bow is 323. Its the same bow I am currently shooting. I doubt your only getting 200fps with it. I shoot mine at around 270 probably. Never checked nor care too. It kills deer.
Many things effect arrow speed as stated before. The bows IBO speed rating is somewhere around 330ish if I remember correctly. Now that is a starting point. You are shooting really heavy arrows, if you are shooting under 70lb and under 30" draw length those will all slow down the arrow tremendously. You probably have things like silencers, peep, knocking point or D-Loop on your string as well which will slow the arrow down. When he told you it shoots 333fps he probably was referring to the IBO speed rating not the speed that he was getting out of it. Hope that helps.
My bow is rated 320, I am shooting 257 with my arrows, aluminum x75 are way to heavy. Get some carbon arrows.
There is a link on the (archery talk?) page where you enter some specifics about your rig & it calculates your arrow speed. Carbon arrows would defintately make a difference & you can pick them up pretty cheap these days.
Arrow velocity calculator Try this one. If you put in accurate numbers and use 20 grains for sring add on weight, I find it to be very close. http://utopiaprogramming.com/ke/KineticEnergy.html#
http://www.backcountrybowhunting.com/articles/calc/ theres another one that i have found pretty accurate its usually within 5 fps of most chronos
Dude is probably like most un-informed guys who think the IBO speed is the speed of their set-up with big stabilizer, attached fully loaded quiver, sights, rest, arrow set up, silencers attached to string, iphone camera attachement....like none of this has anything to do with the speed of the bow (some barely any while others have a huge affect!).
