So ive hunted the same fields for 4 years now, and as with my previous post it notes that ive been hunting for 4 years. Do the Math. i have gotten to know the two main fields and thickets very very well. On one side of the creek is beans and on the other is corn. this swaps sides every year but always soy beans and feed corn. between the thicket and creek, that is right smack-dab in the middle of one corn field, there is a cut path for the combine to use. i have had luck twice using this as an advantage, setting up along the creekbed about 15 feet high, on the cornor of the corn and about 20 yards away from the cornor of the thicket. This i know is a good spot because the deer use the small unplanted area between the corn and the thicket to walk to the creek. Now my question, since the summer has been a dry one, some of the field near that stand did not sprout and i have patches that i decided to use some of the "The throw and grow" food plot. Due to where i have to park ( thats another topic i have a question on) i have to hoof back into the hunting grounds about a quarter mile. and when crops are up, getting a tiller and fertilizer is a no go. so hoping to hear good things about it but it was only $20 last spring so i wont be disapointed if it doesn't take. Also i set up a trophy rock along the egde of the previous stated thicket. Read good things about these on various other forums that deal with alot of Ohio Hunters, and it has good reviews. Input is very welcome so if any of these are a mistake to use, i still have time to correct them.
Well this is absolutely the worst possible time for planting anything. The reason why is there no rain. In the Midwest mid-July and most of August are our dry seasons, but our June was also a dry season. The crops are doomed; if you wish to get something in the ground I would wait until the end of August as the wet fall approaches. This will give you plot plenty of time to grow prior to October. I maybe wrong, but I tried some Throw 'N Grow last summer late June and it didn't even have a prayer. you need a period of rain in the forecast for 2 or 3 weeks for any sort of hope.
