Not my buck but an interesting story.

Proves that deer can be tough sons of does.

I got to check out this deer and heard the story of it's demise.

The hunter, who is a heck of a shooter had this buck come in and it was chasing does. It started to run as he shot and his arrow caught it way too far back. A broad side hit, it entered and exited right in the front of the hams. The hunter was able to get another broadside shot at the buck and this arrow caught the deer in the chest, a touch back but definitely a double lung hit. ?
    first and second hits visible

The buck ran off and the hunter backed out for two hours. There was a good blood trail and the hunter found the buck fairly easily.
Amazingly and unfortunately the buck was still alive two hours later. It ran off a short ways. (it was weak) The hunter shot it again as the deer was quartering away fairly hard. The arrow caught the deer at the back of the ribcage and deflected off instead of entering the chest. The deer made it a little ways farther and the hunter was able to get another arrow into the buck finally ending the story.

It's a great buck but kind of a bummer of a story. Shows how amazingly tough a deer can be. I'm not sure what could have been done differently other than a better initial hit. Different broadheads? The pod? (kidding)

    Anyhow, something to think about.

Great-looking deer. Did he just shoot it recently? I'm looking for any sign of hope that deer are still moving... so I can maybe kill one. :D

Sorry Greg, he shot it a couple weeks ago. I haven't seen much out lately. In fact in the last three outings I had only a dink buck come and hang out with me.

Nobody's going to take my bait on this deer and broadhead selection? ;)

Great buck! Sometimes it doesn't always go exactly as planned.

It is a heck of an eight pointer.
Here's a picture of shot #3. (the one that deflected off) Dang.

You guys are too smart or too cool to bark out 'He should have been shooting Rage broadheads.'
He was using the two blade rage broadheads.

(it's not that I have anything against the rage.. I just don't think they are the superhero broadheads some make 'em out to be.)

I am amazed, sometimes they go down, one shot within sight, and other times they take two or more shots and still go a ways
