I finished my online hunter-ed class and have my voucher. I called the TWO guys who hold the four hour follow-up course in my county...one of them said he won't be holding another until September and the other hasn't returned my call. The only guys I have tried to contact were on the list provided by the California government website...anywhere else I turn to wrap this up? Thanks!
Really? Another state? Please someone have an alternative that takes me no more than 50 miles away from home haha!
It may be your only alternative. You have to get that field day completed. Hopefully you get it figured out and dont have to drive far.
I'm sure ill get it figured out...I'm just thinking there has to be more than just two guys doing this in my county...especially since 2 of the 3 classes held are held right here in my small town of Lompoc.
Answer me this, anyone... have any of you found a course, using a source other than the list provided to you by your state?
Are you going to be hunting alone? In my state we have an apprentice permit. It's basically where a new hunter can get a license and deer tags without having their hunters safety. Only catch is they have to be with a hunter over 18 who has there hunter safety. If you are going to be hunting with someone you may check to see if your state has this. I had no idea my did till this year. My buddy works for wildlife and parks told me about it. They only have a tiny section on it in the book so it was easily overlooked. Good luck.
My two hunting partners will be following after me so tagging-along under someone else not an option. I also find it hard to believe that California would be one of the few states to such lenient practice. I don't think of it as a desperate situation...it just seems silly that Im unable to find a class right away.
I did the same thing in Ohio. Seemed like as soon as hunting season came in only 1-2 classes were offered all season. I waited and missed the rut last year. The DNR did have a list of all classes offered though.
Most of our instructors (all volunteers) offer their classes in the spring and summer months when demand is highest and there are no hunting seasons underway. Now that fall is here, come Saturdays, many of the instructors are out practicing what they've been preaching. The schedule of classes on our website (http://www.dfg.ca.gov/huntered/classes-home-study.aspx ) is The Schedule--I am not aware of any others. Sincerely, Lt. Mike Norris Enforcement Division California Dept. of Fish & Game That's what they know and its a good enough explaination but I know of 2 places that aren't on their list...so I'll be checking them out.
