Thanks for all the advice and comments guys! Really loving the trophy shots with your little ones included. Do you guys feel it's harder getting a girl involved in hunting than a boy? I'd think it would be but would love to hear everyone's experiences.
My daughter LOVES hunting and is chomping at the bit to do more. This year (she is 11) she starts skinning and gutting her own squirrels. In the off season she says she is ready to start shooting the ML so that she can be ready to hunt deer next year. She will be field dressing her own deer next year. She has been with me on more than a few now and she says she is ready. I got her 2 knives for christmas, one for the small game and one for the deer. I am thinking for her birthday next year I will look at getting a Youth Rossi ML or Youth Rossi combination (thanks Fletch!). She got the air rifle for christmas last year and she shoots .22's and air rifle for 4H all summer. Heck, when she was 5 it was nothing for her to walk 2-3 miles with me scouting. She knows rubs, scrapes, trails and how to tell what they mean. She has blood trailed deer with me and even blood trailed a squirrel LOL. I wish I had her eyes. The last deer I had to bloodtrail was 600 yards. After I got the deer and dressed it I went and got her and we retraced the whole blood trail while I was explaining stuff. She loves that stuff. You won't have to "get" her involved just take her with you when you do hunting stuff as often as possible and it will be a natural part of her life, as it is yours.
First: Congratulations, there is something extra sweet about little girls. Second; Help her manage the transitions of life. The temptation is to try to prevent them... helping her manage them in God honoring ways is the secret. Third: Be the man you want her to marry someday.
All great advice! Bruce, I was hoping you'd respond...as well as TJF. I knew your daughter had hunted with you before. Sounds like she knows more than an average adult hunter. Kudos!
We're having a girl this time around. My little boy stole my heart so I can only imagine what this girl will do.
Congrats man! My wife and I just had our first child! She is 3 months old and yes I wanted a boy but wouldnt trade her for the world. Get your rest while you can! You will be exhausted!
And your wallet. Enjoy the ride and congrats. Maybe you'll have a picture like this someday. It was hard to keep it at just 2 pics :D Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Is it bad that I would actually prefer a girl? In the end, it would be nice to have both. Congrats Hooker!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4pIJtt48g4&feature=youtube_gdata_player Sorry for some of the bad words, but this is some of the best advice out there. Learn it. Study it. Get it right!
Congrats man!!! I was actually wondering today if you had found out. Haven't been on here much lately.
Lots of great responses. Everything they say is true. Daughters steal your heart and your wallet. I have spent more time in DEB's in the last 6 months while Britney cloth shops then I do at the hunting stores. I have three kids and each one is different. Kayla had no interest in hunting. She liked to fish though. I had high hopes for Tyler in the hunting department. He loved shedhunting and when he bowhunted, he could get on bucks better then I could. He always had an excuse why he couldn't get a shot off though or why he passed some darn good bucks. I finally asked him if he even wanted to kill them. He hesitates then said he didn't want me to be disappointed. I told him I wouldn't. He said nope and was just out seeing what bucks where out there for shed hunting. He loved the scouting and the shedhunting and still does. Britney is an all round kid for lack of better words. She likes girly things as in fashion and shopping for clothes. She like being in the outdoors. She loves going places. While I hate the whole shopping thing... I go along cause she enjoys it. I promised Barb, I would never pressure the kids into hunting because I loved it so much. I have kept that promise. I would take Britney out scouting and shedhunting because she wanted to go. She is a lot like her mom and is very kind hearted. I never really figured she would want to hunt and kill something. She wasn't squeamish though which surprised me. She had her head right in their when I gutted my deer wanting to see the different organs. When we were out scouting or shedhunting and came across a dead animal... she has to always investigate it. When she wanted to start shooting bow so she could shoot with me... it made my day. Then she wanted to shoot rifles, then shoot pistols and asked if she could tag along when I went bowhunting. I've never pushed her. Now she is hunting and loves it. Will she like it a few years down the road and stick with it as she gets older ?? I don't know and don't care. All's I care about is right now. My best advise is to involve them but don't push. Let them decide if they want to hunt or not. Make it fun !!!! Tim
Thanks for the advice, Tim! I'll introduce mine when the time comes and hope that it sparks something inside of her.
Yo, congrats on the little girl... If you need experienced, professional, I'm never wrong parental advise... I am just a PM away
