Shot this deer about a two weeks ago, unfortunately couldn't find him until a neighbor called and said he had found him on his property. I'm happy to have found him but still sucks that all the meat went to waste. My biggest buck to date though
its still nice to know he's not out there running wounded. if you gave it all you had to find him, well you tried
Yeah we looked for about 8 hours the first day, and came back 2 more times to look, blood stopped after about 80 yards
Is there anyway you can tell where you hit him or what went wrong? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I had the same thing happen to me last year.....but not nearly as nice of a buck. Hit was a touch high and back due to light conditions, but I knew pretty much where the arrow hit and it was a pass through. Backed out that evening and came back the next morning with a buddy training a tracking dog. Should have gone on my instincts as the buck did a hard left turn when the blood trail stopped and the dog wanted to keep going the direction he had been heading. Walked and walked and walked.....while the buck was dead in a dense thicket about 80 yard away along a corn field. Found him a week later....by smell. Like the OP, I was seriously bummed about the loss of meat but tagged him to keep the antlers. Some hard lessons to be learned while bowhunting.....no matter how long you have been at it.
Great buck! Things don't always happen like we want them to. Just glad he didn't completely go to waste. Congrats!
I had to shoot behind my stand and my arrow deflected off a small branch making the arrow hit back, we had great blood with air bubbles in it for 80 yards and then it just stopped. I have no idea why, he was found about 500 yards away.
Same thing happened to me this year but I found him 18 days later about a mile away while doing fence work. I'm doing a euro mount myself and it's amazing how many maggots can fit inside that head.
