Well today I was walking around the property I hunt, doing a little in season scouting and moving cameras around. I was walking along the creek which borders the property, and I come upon a handmade ladder up to the fork of a large tree. There was also a trace mineral block and one of those deer blocks 15 yards from the tree. At first I thought about going to my truck and getting a hammer to rip it off the tree, but decided better of it and called the landowner instead. He said no one hunts his land but me So I decided to leave a note on the tree saying to call me immediately regarding the stand placement (very close to one of my stands), and the trespassing issue. Rifle season opens tomorrow, and I'm pretty sure he will be out there. So I plan on making a lap around the field in my truck at daybreak "driving to my stand". If everything goes how I plan, the stand will no longer be there when I get there.
You're going to ruin that poor trespasser's hunt tomorrow AND on opening day of rifle too. Shame on you! Seriously though, be careful. He could be a wacko. I wouldn't expect him to actually call you either.
It has been a crazy year for crazy things happening with the Game Warden being shot and then look a few years back when that hunter shot the group of hunters in WI. You can never know what they think when you confront someone when they know they are doing something wrong. Be careful!
i had run into the very same situation with a stand that was mine the person had baited the area with corn and apples (highly illegal) and soe urine wicks all over in a stand that i had left up from last year he had it all cedar bows and looked really good but one problem it wasnt his it was mine so i left a little note he didnt call so i went and took it down probrably should have called the gw but decided to take it into my own hands, so chances are he wont be calling you just be carefull
Yeah, I'm not gonna be watching my phone real close by any means. Mostly just left the note to scare them into packing up and moving on. I will be careful when approaching, and I told the landowner I would text him the license plate number and the vehicle when I find out what it is. The landowner has been awesome (he lets me hunt all of his land, and he says to do whatever I like with it as far as food plots and stands), so I am trying to be as civil as possible. Anybody ever had problems with someone refusing to leave in this situation?
Dang, I thought I had that stand hidden better than that... Seriously.. no, never ran into anyone that was the land that I had exclusive access to that wasn't supposed to be there.
Lol, if it was one of you guys from here it wouldn't be that big of a deal, you guys aren't TOO bad :D
In your position, I'd remove all the wood and mineral blocks without damaging them, and leave a note on the tree about how to get their stuff back by a simple call to you to pick it up. Don't hold your breath for a call. lol
John- You're welcome out here any time! Come help me tame my doe population lol. And see the year old ball of pure energy I call Rex
Thanks for the offer Cole, I might just take you up on it after we get the Grandson a Buck. I picked him up from school and sat in the Blind with him last year because his dad had to work, we had 10 doe and 5 bucks in front of us when he says Pa Pa .. My leg are shaken, I said, Thats OK mine are too! LOL. Oh I bet Rex is a hand full right now, Hell his daddy is 77 in dog years now and he still runs around the yard 4 or 5 times when I let him out befor he takes a crap! Wish I felt that good.
what you do is get the land owner and get out there and remove that and place a posted sign on the tree!
We have a few stands on our farm over the years. We used to know all the surrounding farmers on a first name basis. However, over time land gets sold, out of towners move in, and I couldn't tell you who owns 3 of the 6 properties bordering us now. If we find a stand on our side of the fence we simply take it down and leave them a note. They know where they can come get it, and all we do is explain why we took it when they show up to get it. Most of the time they never show.
great way to deal with it! ihunt like said earlier, be careful and a quick call to the DNR wouldnt hurt either...
I went out there this morning, and everything was the same as yesterday, no sign of anyone being there. So the hunt is still on The landowner went out there to try and find it, but couldn't. I know his land better than he does
Terrible you'd do that!!! lol i hope it works but definately be careful there are some strange people out there
So far he has been a no show, but I believe he will be there Saturday morning. He must be one of them hunters that work during deer season :p Its nice being a student sometimes I will keep you guys posted on if I figure anything out
Let me know if you find a set of LW sticks and stand with several scratch outs. I despise trespassers and thieves.
I actually thought of you when I first saw this ladder. I went straight to my stand to make sure it was still there lol (only like 75 yards away). I feel for ya man
