I pretty much took the entire day off from hunting. I've been hitting it hard every day this week and needed a break. The rain made my decision a bit easier. I did decide to go behind the house on the new land to see if I could do a stalk. Only had an hour to work with but thats plenty of time. Anyway, after I had successfully walked within 30 yards of a doe (not what I wanted) I proceeded toward the field to look for a buck. Found this guy along the way. It stood out so much I would have to have been blind to have missed it. What pisses me off is that the buck I killed last year has been completely demolished by squirrels. Its my fault b/c I had him suspended from a tree but what makes me mad is this "dead-head" has been laying on the ground for at least a year or so where squirrels can easily see it. He's barely been touched though. BTW, This was a two-part mission. I also pulled my cam in order to place over a mock scrape I plan on constructing tomorrow. This cam is on a trail and only had one buck pic....and that was yesterday. He'll get a pass this year.
Nice Head Donnie, but that seriously Sucks about the buck you killed last year... I would've had that mounted... but probably not if I had the other buck you do on the wall...lol. I would be seroiusly pissed about it too!
I'd be f'in PISSED about my buck from last year....wow talk about some dead squirrels. I don't plan on ever leavin one out just because of that right there...and my best bud has a beetle colony. :D Better man than I with that buck on cam, I can't tell for sure, but he looks like I'd smoke him in a heartbeat. lol
Yeah...it sucks about my buck but I do have good pics and the memories. I do plan on getting my revenge with those damn squirrels. I learned a good lesson. From now on...I'm just gonna get as much hide/meat off the skull and boil it shortly after the kill. No more worries about squirrels. I'm gonna attempt to make a knife using the left antler base. It will be a pretty cool memento. Trevor...he's getting a pass b/c I've seen bigger...I don't know man...we'll see how season progresses and if my heart skips a beat if I see him in person.
