Congrats on the house! I would have to say I know more dudes in their lower to mid 20's who do have their head on straight than don't....but people in the north Midwest tend to have a little stronger work ethic than most other parts of the country.
I agree most of my friends are very hard workers. There is a few odd balls though lol. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Quick update for you guys.... buying a house sucks lol. My wife and I are "supposed" to finally close on our house on Friday. It's been a long frustrating journey but it's almost over. Of course we are going to be moving in really cold weather but I'm very excited. Anyone ever add a bathroom in a basement? Looking at doing this soon as the house only has 1 bathroom right now? This will be in my man cave so it doesn't have to be huge. I can see a lot of money being spent at Menard already haha. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Dan, now you have to explain to a bunch of them what Menards is. Menards is a Midwestern thing. Congratulations on the home, it is a never ending labor of love and frustration. What part of Osky did you buy in?
Just north of the square a few blocks. Close to the hospital and high school! And ya suppose menards is a Midwest thing isn't it? Basically a Lowes or home depot where guys go broke when a woman is with you. Lol Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
It's not. The washer and dryer are down there so it will require running lines. My father in law is a master plumber so he will help. I just don't know how doable it is. Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Getting the incoming line won't be the problem, it will be the drain to the septic. Maybe he can help you out. ..I sure wish I could put one in my basement.
That's my concern as well. It's been a long time since I've been in the house so can't remember exactly but I believe the drain pipe comes down by the washer and dryer. The bathroom is right above them. I don't know for sure though Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
Dan, does the drain exit below the floor? If so it will be pretty doable and cheap, if you do it yourself...
I can't remember but I believe so. Most homes around here do. I plan on doing it all myself with help from my dad and father in law! Sent from my SCH-R970 using Tapatalk
I've done it many times, it involves a concrete saw and jackhammer and a lot if sweat. If you're lucky you only have to cut a trench 10 or 15 feet through your concrete floor but I've did them as long as 30 ft. Easily doable yourself, expensive to hire someone because it's crappy work and no one wants to do it so they quote a small fortune in hopes you will reject their bid, at least that's what I do .... I have done it. I only had to go about 10 feet to hit the drain line. I was young and dumb and used a circular saw with a masonry blade (or 3) and scored a line in the concrete and then busted it all out by hand. I used a sledge for breaking up the concrete and a pick axe to dig up the packed sand and dirt under that. It was a lot of work, but well worth it when done. I had to dig one for the toilet and one for the shower(much shorter).
Congrats on all account and keep going. It's only gets better. Bust your arse and be wise with your money and investments for 20yrs and you can coast the rest of the way.
