Was out swapping out game cam sd cards yesterday (Monday) morning. As I left the first camera I walked around behind the clump of trees and about 30 feet to back side of my tree stand was dead spike buck. He was stiff so had been there for a little while. Rolled him over - saw nothing out of line on either side. He was within view of the drive into the timber patch and an easy shot from my stand. First thought was a .22 deer kill. When I got back to the house I called the DNR officer and left a message. I did not want to be accused of shooting it and leaving it lay. About an hour later she called back and said she was on her way. After an hour of examination could not find anything other than some real dark coloration on the one lung. Blood foam from the nose indicated internal damage. No punctures any where on the body. No broken bones, very little internal blood. Appeared to be in good condition for a young deer. Biologist is coming out today to do further checking. The deer was 1/2 mile from a gravel road so vehicle hit is a possibility but no damage to indicate this occurred. It was laying about 100 feet from a dead end dirt road that was muddy at 10:30 when I went up it a short distance with the quad at around 10:00. Will see what they find today, if anything.
Possibility but no damage or bruised area. Haven't heard back with anything other than when DNR left yesterday.
