Well forks made it through the winter. I picked up his right antler Saturday. Means a lot to me to find out after having history with him. I scored the antler, and estimating the other side he scored around 153 last year....so I'm officially fired up to see what he is this year. Pretty sure he will be 5 this fall. I did learn that he is living in the opposite direction of where I thought he was. I found the shed 2 miles from the camera I got his pics on. Humbling creatures
It amazes me that you guys can pick out a deer after seeing him in early velvet. I'm trying to get better at it but I can't tell one buck from another until they're close to done growing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Best way I have found to re-identify a buck in early velvet is to study his pics hard and look for distinguishing marks on him white patches , battle scars on the face or sides and save the pics tagged with a specific name or # it helps me track them throughout the year if I can find something unique to use as a marker. Makes it fun to every time you pull your SD cards.
He lives! I was getting worried....He finally showed up. Surprisingly looks a bit smaller than last year, and he no longer has his "forks." Ohh well, he's 5 this year and definitely on the menu
I know where this deer lives.....he is traveling 2 miles to this mineral site. My only hope is he feels like traveling during the rut at the same time I'm hunting this farm...he's a brute of a 5 year old.
Yep...His core area is a swamp 2 miles away as the crow flies. I found his shed there this spring...but I don't have permission to hunt there
Very nice! For him to show up at 5.5 years old out of velvet is really encouraging. Maybe he has relocated and set up shop somewhere nearby.
