Yep, two quarts does seem excessive. (my oil burning post was more aimed at the TheChurchArchers ;) )

You sure you don't want a f250 with a v10? I have one for sale and it's in Wheeling, IL right now. LOL!

Hah - I was actually considering an F-250, but if I did that it would have to be a Powerstroke. They are just so damn expensive though even used.

My husband has Wrangler like this. He was spending more on oil than gas. Thought it was a valve cover gasket then noticed the valve cover was cracked.

He has also destroyed two oil pans on his SUV (the Manvan) since we've moved out to Utah. I bet the EPA is not happy with him.

    Oil pan survived this...

But then hit this the next day. It didn't look like much but there was a strategically placed oil pan eating rock there.

    And bam.

    Hijack over.

Skid plates??? Pffft. Needs to ditch the man van and get a man truck with 4" to 6" lift and at least 33s traversing roads like that.

There's really no where to attach skid plates on the manvan. :(

That was a scouting trip, we were looking for elk. Up on top it was just snow and a couple of atv tracks. We started coming down this trail and once you start coming down, you're committed. The trail got rougher and narrower. A full size truck would not have fit and it's sort of a miracle we didn't have any rock-induced body modifications at the end. Had to squeeze through a couple of giant boulders. At the very bottom of the mountain was a tiny cattle guard that the Mitsubishi just fit through. I guess that was what was supposed to keep idiots like us from trying to drive a car on a ATV trail. LOL. It's not the first time. You should have seen the one trail I took my truck on. That one had thousand foot sheer cliffs and I had to go around the corners by creeping forward, then backing up a bit... then creeping forward... It was awesome.

Out here you need a Full size truck with larger tires for better ground clearance. Also, a fully modified Jeep. And an Atv. And a small UTV, plus some snowmobiles and some horses. And don't forget a shovel, chains and hi-lift jack. :D

If you want a bigger cab look at a crewmax tundra. I have a limited crewmax and the cab is huge. I get around 15 mpg out of the 5.7, but if I was worried about mpg I would not have bought a truck.

I like the Toyotas but I'd really like to buy a vehicle from a US based company.

I'd love to but they are well out of my price range. Plus realistically I just don't need a diesel truck. The heaviest thing I tow is my boat (4-5klbs) and even my 5.0 motor does just fine with it. Someday I'll go diesel but right now I just can't justify spending $50-$60k to get one with low miles and outfitted well.

I thought the same, then I realized my truck was built in Texas buy Americans. The profit may go to Japan, but the labor is here. You can get alot more options on a tundra for a lower price than the f150. I bought my tundra this summer. I wanted to buy an f150, but for what I paid for my tundra I could buy an xlt f150, my tundra has the options of a lariat model f150. Does not hurt to check them out. Kind of like Shopping for bows, try them all and see which one fits best. Good luck in your search.

You can get a diesel with 40-50k miles and its still new those motors run forever. You might not need it for towing but IMO its worth it just because they run so long. I bought mine with 33k miles and paid 34k loaded down Z71.

I have a 2011 F150 ecoboost, 60,000 on it. Mileage sucks if you ask me. 16.5 mpg over all average since I bought it. Could be worse sure, but not what I was expecting. And I put 91 in it.

Only 16.5mpg? Wow. Is that mostly city driving? Huge tires?

I get ~14 on the highway in my 2500 hd with the 6L. A little more if I draft behind semis and less if I'm pulling the pontoon boat loaded down with a half ton of dead carp. On my last trip out here with the truck, I was at about 13,500 lbs of weight. Just over 6,000 lbs of truck and payload, pulling 7,500lbs of trailer. I still managed almost 14 mpg. I got much worse mpg when pulling an enclosed cargo trailer (like 11-12 mpg) Too much wind resistance I guess. I get about 9 mpg in stop and go city traffic. :(

The TacPri gets about 60 mpg in the city. LOL

Can't believe what I am about to say but have you considered the Dodge Ram 1500 with the EcoDiesel? I know they average 1mpg less than my Grand Cherokee so realistically you would be looking at 23-25mpg average. There are already some chip companies out there that are getting more HP and mileage out of them as well. The motor is about 4-5k more but the dang things should run forever and most of the kinks have been worked out.
