Saw this tip somewhere a while back and said I was going to try it.
Tie a cord to your rattling antlers so they rest on the ground from treestand height. When you want to rattle just lift the cord up and down a little. After I tried it it doesn't seem to get the volume from hand rattling with an antler in each hand. It does however allow you to quickly ditch the antlers when a buck comes charging in. Again, I forgot where I saw it so if it was your tip I apoligize.

Never thought of rattlin' that way. Also, I dig your avatar. That's sweet.

seen this tip on a hunting show a while back, i have never had any luck at all with rattling but this aproach makes sence, in the show they rattled normally for a while then lowered the rope down.

I think someone makes a set like this, they say that rattling from the gorund is more realisitic than from in the air. Maybe I saw a set someone made, I cannot remember and am too lazy to search. Are you going to try this Rick, I would be interested to know how it works.

I tried it last year. It was ok for some light rattling, but you certainly can't get much more than some antler tickling out of it (or at least I couldn't). It just didn't sound realistic to me.

Plus, I think if a deer is close enough to tell that your 15 ft up a tree, he's too close for you to be rattling anyways.

I'd be much more interested in a bleat can that you do the same with. I think there's one out there, but I may try to rig something up myself for this season.

if you are worried about using sound attractants from your stand and think its better on the ground then just use and electronic game call or a ground blind. I truly believe that calls and rattles are only used to get your deer into bow range once they are on the way leave it alone.

I know a guy down who hunted a state park down in central illinois who tied a rope to a little shrub tree down on the ground. He rattled by hand in the treestand, then yanked and thrashed the tree. His buddy was hunting about 100 yards from him and ended up harvesting a buck in the 190's. His buddy didn't even do any of the work.
