This is probably the most famous (aged) buck of all time.. and the reason for so many of the misconceptions (imo) about age. He's used alot in magazines and posters and the such.

He was a captive animal to start.. had the genes to begin with.. as you can blatantly see by his amazing set of antler at age 2.. and likely had the nutrition since he was for study.

    A great buck none-the-less.

But I'll say again.. look at him at age 2.. WOW!

I remember seeing pictures of a captive deer many years ago that didn't grow it's best rack until he was 9 1/2 . Our state record non-typical 238"+ was 10 1/2 years old.

pretty cool article, i saw something like this on Deer and Deer hunting, where they took a wild 1 1/2 yr old spike and high fenced it and it lived 12 yrs and its biggest rack was 160''.

it really does make you wonderin sometimes, when people kill bucks at an early age..what could have been..this is a pretty buck....i would love to see others let deer get to this age...but at 2 1/2..this deer is a trophy for most people...hard to let deer slip through the cracks like this...but their out there...great development

I know everyone likes to look at and talk about the antlers, but body on that deer at 6.5 just blows me away. That thing is a tank! The amount of muscle that deer is carrying is impressive.

How do you know he was a captive animal to start? All the article says is he lived on private property.

My comment above was an attempt at humor. It can be a bit dry at times.
