Thought you might like this (the commentating is a little over dramatic, but the footage is neat). Ever went after Musky with your fly gear?\ The line about 10 seconds in is pretty absurd, too....you'll know it when you hear it:D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIzFLt65eHo
Oh, I've watched that trailer probably 15 times. My brother just got the DVD last week, can't wait to see it. He said it tells a pretty good story and has some great footage. The maker of the video, Rob Thompson, has a place in northern MI and we fish some of the same water. Cool guy, and a heck of a videographer/editor. My older brother lives by some pretty good musky water. He has caught his fair share on a fly. I plan on visiting him more this summer. Starting to tie a few musky fly ideas I have in my head. And a sampling of fly caught muskies by my brother from last year.
Dang Matt that fly fishing stuff looks like a pure work of art. I walked by some fly rods a week or so ago in a sporting goods store. The more I delve into the traditional bowhunting world the more I see myself potentially learning how to fly fish in the future. The subtle similarities are apparent.
I've landed my fair share of Pike on the fly, but never a Musky. Living in WI is nearly Musky heaven and hopefully I can land one in the near future.
The similarities are certainly there. Bowhunting is pretty comparable to fly fishing. Trad bowhunting would be like fly fishing with bamboo fly rods, which I also enjoy. I find the pull toward trad achery gear slowly gets stronger every year, as does my appreciation for more traditional fly gear. There are a lot of artsy fly tyers out there. They tie some beautiful stuff. For me, its all about fishing them. I wouldn't tie flies if they weren't going to be fished. I don't tie a lot of proven patterns. I like the creative part of tying and coming up with something new...new to me anyways. Basically every fly out there is inspired by something that has already been done. I have been known to stop using a fly that I know works, so I can figure out something new. Its a big part of the fun for me.
I've gotten into musky fishing the last couple years. I used to fly fish for atlantic salmon years ago, sounds like it may be time to combine the two. It looks awesome.
