I pulled a half-full tick off my scalp the other day. Major ookie. Usually ticks die when the bite me but not this one... plus it held onto a chunk of my skin when I pulled it off so I bled all over.

Now the lymph nodes in my neck are all puffy.

If you use Frontline on your dog to prevent ticks from sticking, ticks are becoming immune to it. It will kill them but it usually take days, one of my neighbors was using the stuff and her dog had blood filled ticks on several times a month. So she switched to Vectra for flea and tick control last month.

So far not a one yet.

It amazes me how many have been affected by ticks. To those on here, I wish you the best of luck. One of the guys at our hunting camp got Lymes a few years back and its no picnic. He didn't realize what he had until it was far too late.

I really think something needs to be done about them. Maybe they're more difficult to control than I realize though and we haven't found the "magic bullet" for them. But honestly, instead of worrying about a couple wolves, bears, etc., killing our deer, we should be worrying about these nasty little creatures killing us more.

I just hope the permethrin works. I don't want to end up with Lyme Disease.

I wonder why they/we can't spray the woods with permethrin to help control the ticks

Permethrin, by nature, is a nasty chemical. Hence they tell you to not spray it directly on your skin. I can't imagine the stuff would be good for the environment if sprayed like they do for Gypsy Moth.

I hear symptoms are a lot like a bad case of the flu. I'm really hoping for an early, hard frost this year. Even that won't do much accept slow them down a little maybe, unless it remains cool afterwards. The only good thing I can say about this drought we're having is that it may also have a negative impact on the tick population if it remains this dry for the next 90 days. However that REALLY sucks for the farmers. That photo makes me sick..........barf!

As predicted, this has been the worst year in my memory for them. We can't keep them off our dogs, and every time I go outside I seem to get one or more on me.

I've been tested for lyme and the doc said I didn't have it. Very smuggly BTW, before I even did the bloodwork the doctor said it's not lyme disease. I almost wanted it to prove him wrong. A buddy of mine was told by 2 doctors he didnt have it and then a 3rd said he did and treated him. The doc that treated him said that there is a lot of controversy with lyme disease. He said a lot of doctors don't even believe it's real! So I will be setting an appointment with that doctor soon!

They have been for many years.

Use pattern - Permethrin is used in the protection of a wide variety of field crops (cotton, tobacco, hops, fruits and vegetables), in greenhouses, market gardens and vineyards. Successful use in large-scale silviculture programmes is under review. Permethrin may be applied from ground or from air dispensers to field crops. It may be sprayed on plants in enclosed areas and on inert surfaces for quick knockdown or repellent effect or used as a dip or spray for animals. Some biting insects are well controlled for several weeks by simply applying the formulation to one or two dominant members of a small herd (10-30 animals).
Check this website out. They have everything you need to know about Permethrin.
