Check out my turnip patch. I was originally just going to post these for those who are thinking about putting in a food plot and trying to decide what to use. However, I just read Siman's post about being burnt out and while I understand and have been feeling a little of this myself, I thought this might help those of us who have lost some of their motivation in the late season.

I had an encounter during the rut with the first buck below that left me down in the dumps for days. I had him standing 25 yards behind me, wind in my favor and coming my way. That was until my neighbor cruised through the area on an ATV and sent him back the other direction. I haven't seen him since.

I have been pretty down about the whole incident and starting to lose motivation. After that encounter and the fact that another neighbor mortally shot and wounded another very large buck during early archery season, I was begining to wonder if I was waisting my time.

Then I put a trail cam on my turnip patch and checked it this weekend. A buck that none of us has seen before is staking claim to my turnips. Check it out, just remember, no matter how many trail cams or days on stand, there are probably bucks around that you have no previous knowledge of. I hope this helps some with thier motivation.

And yes....I now have a stand in the tree directly behind the camera that I will be in the rest of the late season.

It looks like you should have been there this morning! It looks like you need to get on him before the conditions change or somebody comes around and bumps him out. Is that the only day he was on your cam?

The snow had been on the ground for about 10-12 days. I'm not sure how many times he has been in there, the camera was only in for a week.

It is the only day HE was on the camera. There were several other pictures of deer the day before. The camera had only been in for five days before I checked it. The day before there was about a 120" buck in there three times. He came in twice in the morning and again that evening.

It was a turnip blend called "Bullseye Deer Turnips" put together by Des Moines Forage &Turf. You can go to their web site to get more info and you can order them seasonally I believe.

    http://www.dftseed.com/agricultural/wildlife.php

One thing I noticed about them is that they grow sticking halfway out of the ground. It definetely helps the deer get to them easier when the ground freezes. They have turnips pulled up in little spots all over the plot.
