If you were offered a staff spot with a good salary on a hunting show, would you accept the position if you were required to use a gun 50 percent of the time? I thought of this today as I was watching 100% Hunting or something like that on the Versus channel. I wondered if someone that only hunts with a bow would be willing to forego a pleasurable hunt with his bow 50 percent of the time, in order to gain employment in the hunting industry. So what about you?
Fair enough. But think about this...the show would be willing to fly you around to hunt various game around the world, on them. All you would have to do is use a gun 50 percent of the time in order to take various game, and in turn give them valuable camera footage. All they would require is that you spend about 10 days a month hunting. The remaining 21 days you could spend at home doing whatever you want...would that sweeten the deal?
I lived this - got out of the Marine Corps back in '94 and sold my Harley, bonds and borrowed cash from family. Owned and ran a dive shop for 5 years in SoFl...burned me out for diving forever. Was lucky to be able to get back in the USMC after a 6 year break.
Everyone has a price Jeff! Sean, see anything on 17C Saturday? I am going to try and get an afternoon hunt in on Saturday the 20th around 12:30 or so. More than welcome to join up if you have nothing going on.
I have people telling me when and how to do my job, NOW. The way I figure it, at least I would enjoy my job. Be doing what I love. It's still hunting......different, yes. But hunting none the less. Yeah, there are parts of it that wouldn't excite me a lot, such as using this equipment or that due to sponsorship but hey.........If that's the biggest worry I have..........I'm pretty sure I'll get over it.
If it would pay my bills and allow me to save up for the future, and afford me family time to my liking... Heck Yeah!!!:D
Most likely. It's not because of the rifle hunting (since I'm not 100% bowhunter, so maybe I shouldn't even be responding). Can't really say, because it would probably be situational. I would REALLY like to know what the top TV hosts make salary wise (including endorsements). As long as I was making a comfortable living, it would be hard for me to say if it would become a miserable job (but I can't say for sure).
Agree here...and I do hunt our shotgun season each year - so the gun is not the issue, but don't see me ever hunting big game with gun outside this annual (tradition for me) shotgun season with family. ...but even more importantly - I want to hunt on my own terms - that way I will ALWAYS enjoy it - not stress about camera light and kill shots...and if it becomes my job, there is an off chance I could "become sick of it" sometimes and I don't ever want that - I'd rather hunt less and always have the passion and desire to go more...
having alot of my expenses paid, getting to see lots of beautiful land, meet lots of new people( people that actually like hunters), hunt some of the best animals around, ummmmmm ....YES
I turned down an offer back in the 80's, Same deal only with X bows instead of guns. Lot bigger deal now with TV shows and all.
I would do it if I could make a living at it. I don't care about being rich money wise. If it would give me the opportunity to hunt more and my equipment sponsored. Yup I'd do it with a smile as long as it was ethical and fair chase.
Let's see...someone want's to pay me to travel around the world to bowhunt and rifle hunt animals and I only have to work 10 days a month...dam right I would do it!
Would do it in a second! Give me the opportinity to provide for the family, travel, do something I enjoy! As a single dad I don't see my girls all the time anyways. Wouldn't make much of a difference from that stand point!
If I made the living I wanted, yes. A job is a job. I'm not quite as "high up there" as some of you. Everyone needs a job. I would atleast enjoy this one. Edit to add: I gave up the rifle a few years ago, and don't even consider hunting with guns nowadays. But I could do it for the right price. It still fun, just not as fun as the bow.
