"For the life of me" I dont get why people make threads like this.. shoot what you want and I'll shoot what I want. Could give two rats butts what anyone else shoots.
Personally, as some one that is very new to bow hunting, I enjoy reading why or why not one prefers one or another. I know what my preference is for certain reasons but hearing what others prefer and why "broadens my horizons" about things I am so new to.
Good point but like anything else you have to discard the top third and discard the bottom third and the truth lies somewhere between.
this topic is rediculous "everyone" knows SWHACKERS are the best mechanical broadhead made... why? because that is what I use...
Okay, it all boils down to which "margin of error" you are attempting to measure? Yes, it could be argued that a large diameter cutting mechanical will perform better with far back hits and devastate organs much better than say a fixed for argument sake. The trauma of a stomach that is in two and intestines severed beyond belief will take a deer down quicker than a punctured one true. Yet.... It could be argued that a fixed blade broadhead will perform better than any mechanical when you introduce bone contact into the equation. My heavy arrows tipped with a strong fixed blade broadhead stand a much better chance at splitting a shoulder blade or conquering a knuckle. I personally don't fear the gut shot with my fixed heads because I know the deer will die no question asked...I just need to back out and be smart about my recovery. Instead of seeing the deer die 50 yards from my stand (with mechanical) it most likely beds down within the first 100 yards or so and dies in that bed un-disturbed. A dead deer is a dead deer. What I fear more is contact with bone. Hence why I follow your statement But wouldn't we be more responsible as hunters if we used the products with the greatest margin or error?...by utilizing heavy arrows and a fixed blade head. Shoot as others touched on a single beveled head makes the most scientific sense when contacting any thing from bones to organs....however it is just tough for me to put my Slick Tricks down cuz dang if they don't fly ridiculously straight. Shot placement outweighs ANYTHING anyone can state about a broadhead...I do agree though in that some hunters are getting the wrong mindset in the "it's okay I got a <insert mechanical head>" mentality.
I make my mechanical broadheads out of 3,16 penny nails 2 staples, and 3 rubber bands. They don't fly for sh!t but they hit hard.
Eldest of the Simans... There is a lot of false info in the thread regarding broadheads. The best broadhead eva happens to be the NAP Bloodrunner... 125 grains to be specific.
Feel like a broken record but I will stand behind the fact that a single bevel will produce more damage on a gut shot than a mechanical. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
