When do you start your all day sits? I'm trying to decide if I should do an all day sit this Saturday on an urban hunt that is a great travel funnel. Right now I'm leaning towards it's a bit early yet for an all day sit to really become beneficial. Since it's an urban hunt, I have great access to get in and out without spooking anything.

I can't hunt the weekend of the 6th so I was thinking about doing an all day sit on the 13th and 14th for sure. Thoughts?

    Brad,

Here in IL...My all day sits always fall around the dates of Nov 9-13th....and most seasons it is only 1 or 2 all dayers - that's just all the schedule allows. I'd have no problem sitting all day once Nov hits, but again, if I can only pick 1 or 2 it would be the 9th-13th. And it's the same this year - the 3 days I have clear to pick my 2 all dayers are 9th, 10th, 12th.
Unfortunately I'm booked the weekend of 6th/7th as well.

Good Luck - Keep Team 9 posted on your adventures!

I can only sit all day on Saturdays. I sat all day last sat(not sure why), will be this sat, and the 6th and 13th.

I'm sitting all day friday and saturday, the weather is going to be cold in the mornings and temps will reach 50's to maybe 60 for highs so conditions are looking good. The more time at stand the better, it's getting that time of year. The big boys will be making appearances midday...

I did an all day sit only ONCE in my 12 years of hunting and boy that is rough! I enjoy the outdoors but sitting in a little stand not moving around at all was a really tough thing for me to do. My question is how do you all do it?

I generally start my all day sits this weekend. Most days I have to swap trees at some point during the day, but other than that transition its an all day sit. Friday and sunday I have to take longer mid day breaks to set up/tear down camp, but otherwise those too will be mostly all day sits.

Do the all day sits pay off for you this time of year Rybo? Do you see significant mid day movement? Talking about deer in general not just bucks.

Obviously seeing deer makes it easier. When I sit all day I usually need to play a handheld game, eat, surf the web on my smart phone during the mid day. It can be tough but alot of time it seems to go faster then you think it would.

My all dayer's usually start the last Saturday in October here in PA and will do the same through the end of season (Nov 13). Of course if the weather doesn cooperate and its raining cats and dogs or blowing like mad, I'll bail late morning and return early afternoon.

The question wasn't directed at me, but I'll chime in and say that I've had quite a few big bucks show up late morning, mid afternoon. In fact the last two good bucks I've taken have been after 10:30 AM.

The key to sitting all day for me is comfort. I pretty much know before the season where the "rut" stands are. Putting my most comfortable stands there is key. I spent some extra coin this year on two comfortable, larger hang ons and last Saturday was quite nice despite the non activity.

I'll be sitting all day for the first time this season tomorrow and Saturday. I agree 100% about the comfort, because of that I will switch from using my Lone Wolf Alpha to my Summit Viper for this weekend. As much as I like the LW, there's no way I could sit on it all day.

I think I am going to plan for an all day sit. See how it goes. I can always change my mind mid day.

Comfort is a must if you're going to sit all day. Either that or an iron ass.

That is why my all day sits, regardless are done out of my Summit climber. It simply is the best for this type of situation.

Another thing that no mentioned is food and drink. Especially if its cold, having something to munch on from time to time, keeping your fire stoked, helps a lot in dealing with the cold. You don't have the luxury of getting out, walking around and grabbing a quick bite if you are set on sitting all day.

I must be crazy, but I can sit all day on not be bored. I don't mind it at all. I usually will see tons of turkey, deer, yotes among other game, so I guess it's like getting entertained. Thats usually when the corn is down, which all the corn is in our area except for the farm I hunt.

No doubt if I was seeing stuff all day long I would be not be getting bored. It's when it gets to 2pm and all you have seen is two squirrels is when it can be challenging.

It can be pretty tough when your not seeing alot, especially just those little furballs running around, but the moment of truth can happen at anytime, so the more you can be patient and sit it out the better. You might sit all day and not see anything, the next day you might get a surprise showing right away in the morning, 10a.m., noon, 2p.m. you never know. I think this is what drives me to sit all day. Alot of hunters hunt the morning and afternoons missing out on some of the best times to be in the stand this time of year, missing out on Mr. Big! I like knowing I'm not moving and or missing out on any of the action, I want to surprise that deer not caring what time he comes by me.

Agree, there is nothing better than during the mid day lull, you're dozing or struggling to stay alert and all of sudden the silence is broken by the crashing, limb breaking noise of a buck running a doe.

I usually just get the feeling of when its' time to pull all dayers depending on what I'm seeing leading up to it. Typically around the same time of year obviously. But something usually triggers me from being a morning/afternoon hunter to sit your booty in a treee sunup to sundown. Can be challenging at times when it is slow. But.... when love is in the air I've seen big bucks ALL times of the day. Besides, I have nothing else to do. Probably won't be doing as many all days this year though (seeing as how I only have doe tags left :tu:)

When the weather is good(cooler) yes I'll have decent deer movement thru midday. I have yet to see a big buck from the tree at this time. But I have seen midday big bucks while switching spots.
