When would that be? When players wore leather helmets and actually tackled players to keep them out of the endzone, and not to hurt them? At what point did it change? I don't know the history of the league, so I really don't know. When did some players start tackling to try and hurt a player, instead of just to keep him from advancing the ball? My guess is when the equipment improved. Most defensive players probably wouldn't hit so hard if they weren't so protected by the equipment. I could be wrong here, but I think the concept behind the sport of football is: the offense tries to get the ball into the endzone, and the defense tries to keep them from doing so. At what point did trying to hurt other players come into that? A guy runs for 15 yards and a first down, but a safety sticks him good and then proceeds to boast about the hit. Why? It would appear he doesn't care the offense got a first down, as long as he hits him hard. I don't get it.
I hear ya. Nothing more idiotic in sports....than to taunt the player/team who just tackled you, after your 35yd gain.....when you're 30pts down. If they'd cut out ALL...and I mean ALL the taunting (they still allow WAY too much for my liking)....then a lot of this crap wouldn't exist.
"Post of the Day" Nominee...... I hear ya there Jeff, but if we shocked them while they were doing their endzone dance and they fell down, then they'd get a penalty........ :D
I couldn't agree more! Now for those of you saying that football is supposed to be rough. Umm, have you been watching lately? Some of these guys are out to hurt, not just play a sport. Yes football is going to have contact and should be rough when needed and called for but when a guy catches a pass a few inches from the sidelines and is heading out, is it really necessary to slam him and tackle him as though he were mid field. Why not just make the contact to make sure he goes out? Just my .02
Thank goodness there are other people out there who see this like I do. I can't STAND it when players celebrate their hits or get in the opponents face after a hit when that opponent just ran for 10-20yds, or caught a pass for yardage gain, etc. You're an idiot. You either played poor coverage, read the offense wrong, or just got flat out schooled and YOU'RE the one boasting? Please.
And....I think they should be ejected for the boasting. Period. Add a 1 game (unpaid) suspension to it, also. Just rid the league of all of it. But, like I said....there's throngs of grown men and women who LOVE the end zone celebrations and the taunting after the hits. It's like soap operas that keep score.
Yes, and unfortunately, that is why some fans watch certain players. They watch them because they like them, and others watch them because they hate them. Again, its a business. Now the coaches are getting involved. Look how popular Rex Ryan is. Fans talk about it him because they love him, and fans talk about him because they can't stand him. Either way, people are paying attention. I hear the WWE is very popular among adult males. Some guys just dig that type of stuff.
More news with this topic...Harrison did not practice today as he considers retiring. Yeah, right. He claims he doesn't know how to play football now after being fined $75,000. Here's an idea...tackle someone by wrapping them up instead of cracking them across the head with a forearm. Then, and this is kind of important, don't say you are trying to hurt players in an interview shortly after the hits in question. And to think people believe professional athletes can act like prima donnas. Oh the drama. He might as well just said "I'm taking my ball and going home!" <----Harrison
Yep.. kind of pathetic. Just line up for the next play. Miles Austin likes to play leap frog now. That was pretty classy. A week after getting a celebration penalty. Unreal.
Two Dallas players were penalized for giving the "hook 'em horns" hand sign to the Vikings players. For wahtever reason, this is against the rules (I can imagine why. But, that's not important).
Harrison is back with the team today. Didn't see that coming. <---- sarcasm One day after "seriously considering retirement", he's made his decision and he's back with the team. Only took one day to decide. See, Brett, thats how you make a retirement decision! :rolling eyes:
Be that as it may............. http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/blog/sh...rns-sign-caused-Dallas-penalty?urn=nfl-278005
Interesting. I thought the leap frog thing was ridiculous as well. These celebrations have gotten way out of hand and I hope they keep cracking down on It.
Hopefully someone close to him bi#$%^ slapped him and told him to stop being a baby and start playing like a respectable man!
