I am looking at getting into fletching my own arrows but need some input on the glues and such. What do you guys use? I'm planning on purchasing a Bitzenburger jig. I also would like to know where you all buy your supplies. Thanks for the input.

I use Platinum Fletch Tite for all feathers/vanes and have had fantastic results with it for probably thousands of arrows fletched. I also use Super Glue Gel for inserts or glue in points. For nocks, I use the plastic bag trick so they are easy to remove and replace.

Gorilla glue In a formula similar to the loc tite stuff.

Application is better than the LT, and runs is in a package that is significantly larger.

Clean surface holding in about 10 seconds.

I use a JoJan (a gift) to knock out a bunch of arrows at a time - you won't go wrong with a Bitzenburger though.

Supplies generally from the local BPS, eBay, or occasionally from an independent shop if my needs and travels coincide. I used to use the fletchtite, but moved to the superglues when I started shooting carbon arrows. Though I also have a set of quikfletched arrows - convenience.

    Three notes or tips,
    * If you use the fletchtite, it does seem to lose its strength over time, storing it in a refrigerator allegedly helps it retain its bonding strength longer.
*Clean the surfaces of any glue, dirt. Alcohol or Acetone are the two more common cleaners, though rinse with water or (water) dampen cloth especially if using acetone as a cleaner.
*A small dab of glue at the front&rear of the fletch/vanes helps with wear and abuse from being bumped about.

I use the loctite professional from walmart. I've never had any issues with it at all. Be sure to wipe the excess.

I have 2 fletch tools, the blitz and the bohning blazer (the more expensive one). The blitz is hands down better. The bohning is very messy to use and the vanes just look bad (work find though). The blitz is also much more versitile.

I just get my vanes wherever. Gander mountain, my local shop, i've ordered them from lancaster...

Lastly, I like to do each on individually, taking special care of each. I often kind of laugh becasue people probably look at this like Bill Murphy prepping for the gopher in caddyshack

I've used it all at some point. The best I have found is Flex Tite platinum for all fletching.

The bitz is a good one..but i think you would like the jo jan better, simply because you can do one or six at a time
.they are around the same price. I say this because i started with the bitz and then ended up with two jo jans.
One at a time takes forever and eventually you'll have a buddy or two wanting you to make arrows. I also use steel force fletch glue with the accelerator. Clean with just plain charcoal lighter fluid
Never had one come off ..have to cut them off

Much appreciated guys. I don't have a problem with quickfletch, but It drives me nuts to have a dozen arrows with blazers from the shop and two or three quickfletched arrows. From my experience they don't shoot much different. I guess I am just a little OCD when it comes to my gear. I want all my arrows to match. I also would like to get into doing some wraps and such to customize a little more.

i just use the nap quick spins! that way no mess, no waiting, and you can fletch a dozen arrows in 5 min.

Just used my Bitz again last night...great piece of equip. One at a time seems like it could take forever, but rarely am I doing 6-12 arrows...usually 1-3 to get my total back up. I've tried most glues and all work fine - just most break down over time (like after a year). I even just used some $3 Gorilla Glue last night - looks like it will work fine.

Only suggestion is to not get in hurry to remove jig to do next fletch...some look like they are dry enough, but have had a few where edges of fletch start to slightly peel up when drying if removed too fast.

For feathers, I still think you cannot beat fletch tape...and no worry on glue dry time...

Good luck - I know many like the quikfletches (great idea)...but I enjoy building my own arrows, including gluing each fletch, and I don't like wraps on my arrows. Plus quikfletch are too pricey...

    Good luck and have fun!

Well my intention is to just fletch my arrows as I shoot off a vane or tear one along the line. I don't intend to be fletching a dozen at a time, but I know crap happens and I eventually will be. I have heard mixed reviews on the Jo-Jan, so I would like to have a few Bitz eventually. I just hate having arrows fletched at the shop then getting home and losing a couple vanes then having three or four quickfletched arrows.

I have been fletching my own arrows for 30 years. I have used many different vanes/feathers and glues. Tru-Flight Feathers steer broadheads the best but are loud (in the air and to the touch) and wear some. This is what I use now:

Bitz right helical fletcher (same one for the whole time)
    FlexFletch FFP-360 vanes
    Zing Primer
    AAE FastSet Gel

    Clean shaft using acetone.
    Zing them.
    Use very little glue.
You can't pull them off with a pliers.
