So I've got the mid-late season covered with a good pair of 800gm Alpha Burly's, but I'm curious to know what you are wearing early season. I've worn these boots early season too, but we typically have 70+ degree temps the first week or two and they are WAY too warm for that, my feet sweat like a pig in them that time of year. I already have a pair of Rocky goretex cordura type boots that I use for turkeys, but they have been stored in the garage on a shelf above where I keep the gas cans. I'm guessing they will stink terrible to a deer. I'm hoping for something low cut, and rubber or coated neoprene to retain scent, but want to see if anyone else has the "perfect" boot for what I'm looking for. As of now, the Muck Camo Camp Boots are my #1 pick, but was really looking for something with a bit more aggressive of a sole on it.
The dream season boot is fantastic RJ. It has an aggressive sole, with lots of traction. I've been wearing them dove hunting, just to get them broken in. They are incredily light, and very comfortable. I'll be ordering a pair of Muck boots for winter though. I'm not sure how warm these are going to be.
I'll be wearing my RedHead bayou zip up snake boots all season. Between the Copperheads and Rattlesnakes in west Texas I'm not taking any chances. They are too warm for early season,(80s-90s), but I'll deal with it.
Normally I use a cheaper pair of uninsulated knee high rubber boots. But this fall I am going to experiment a little with my regular danner hunting boots washed in the soap I use on my clothes and kept well treated/sprayed down with scent killing products.
That is exactly what I wore last year, and will this year too. I tried to get the same boot with the agressive sole, but last year it wasn't possible. I swore I saw it this past year at a trade show in Denver. I will check on it this week. They make a 3/4 boot (hiker type) with a nice sole on it, but it doesn't come in camo. I like the one pictured regardless, the lack of sole made up in comfort and sneakability. (being able to feel the ground more) As far as the cold weather hunts go? I have been hunting in the Muck Boot Woody Max. They are the only boot that has ever kept my feet truly warm. Wouldn't mind finding something in the middle, slightly more hikeable, but still warm.
I currently have a pair of LaCrosse Alpha Burly 800 grams. I am thinking this should work late season through layerage of socks. I am pushing towards breaking down and buying another pair of uninsulated rubber boots for early season.
I have been wearing a pair of Rocky's but I have a pair of the Dream Season on my shopping list before the season opens.
I have a pair of Much Boots, great boot and very comfy! My Alpha Burly's made my feat sweat like crazy, I switched to the Muck boot!
I use rocky boots w/cordura outside & 400mg of thinsulate, so there not too bad when it's warm. But then again, I've never hunted when it's 70 degrees or better.
I honestly couldn't tell you what brand my boots are. I've had them for a long time. They are insulated, but not rubber. Pretty much just your normal camo hiking style boot.
