I think it will go away. I know my son is more interested in soccer. There are schools around here that now have to co-op, or not have a team in football. Also, I am on the fence about the concussions. All you guys say, "They knew the risks." But did they? I mean, studies that now show all the concussions leading to permanent brain damage weren't around at that time. I mean, You'd think they'd know that getting smoked in the head time after time, was harmful, but at the same time, there was a lot that was unknown about the human body.
It's not going to go away. Sure, white youths are probably moving more towards soccer, but urban (read: black) kids will still play football.
There is a great Documentary called Head Games and a book. Anyone with kids in sports should read it. It's not just Football that has the head injury issue. Girls Soccer is second and soccer itself it is now known that heading the ball over and over is bad. Sub-Concussive blows are not free. I will add there is too much $$$$$ in football for it to go away.
More talk of the doom of football again last week. Will be interesting to see what happens in the future.
Good deals can be had right now for Illini tickets because the team has played so poorly. I enjoy catching a game every now and then especially when a team like Ohio St. or Michigan is in town.
There has been and always will be gladiator type sports. Lets face the facts and put this political correctness aside. Humans love violence. You can see it in the sports we love, watch and play. You can see it in the TV shows, commercials and movies we watch, and you can see it in the video games we play. Just Youtube Street fights and you will have endless hours of violence. People can't get enough of it. Eventually the NFL will realize the political correct culture is eating into their bottom line, and they will adjust the game to keep people interested. Nobody watches Tennis, but they watch football.
The number of kids going out for football could be cut by 50% next year and it wouldn't matter. The NFL only needs enough to fill the rosters of 32 teams. As long as there is a lot of money in it there will always be plenty of poor kids with talent happy to become a millionaire overnight.
