Depends on what you want to plant. Up here, July/August is when most plant, but you can probably get away with september. It all depends on when your frost usually comes, and if the food plot you are planting is cold tolerant or not.

Now, if you haven't yet, i would go get a soil sample. It's easy and it will let you know exactly what your soil needs. For example, i thought my soil was acidic(it's in the forest, so obviously it's a safe assumption), but i had no clue HOW acidic(i assumed 5.5 at the lowest). When i got my test back, i was shocked to see the PH was at 4.9.:jaw: It also showed i had massive excess amount of Potassium in the soil(which isn't a problem, it just lets me know what kind of fertilizer to buy, as to not waste money).

This totally changed what i was going to plant, as i wanted to go with White Clover(which needs a ph of around 6 IIRC). Instead i went with winter rye and lots of lime. If i hadn't taken the test, my plot would have been a failure and a waste of time and money. Now, i can plant clover in the spring and still attract the deer this fall/winter with the rye.
