I just watched this video. Basically, its a bunch of sheltered young adults, whom have never killed their dinner before. They go to a chicken farm, kill, clean, cook, and eat a chicken. As a hunter familiar with this process, it was interesting to watch. At first I thought they were a bunch of sheltered, whiny kids in adult bodies. It was interesting to watch their reactions to the process. By the end of it I found myself identifying with them a little. Something I did not expect. Their emotions were similar to what I experience after killing a deer; satisfaction of fulfilling the need for food while sad over the death. It seems to me like a little reality check and eye opening. Maybe there is hope for my generation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFW5gPlSJcE
ted nugent had an episode on his program where they did the chicken thing. like tred barta once said " the people that can't handle the killing part just distances themselves further from the kill." so shoot your game from 300+ yds with a gun or 60 yds with a bow if you can't handle it. I have no problem with it so the closer the better for me. like a guy told me once " archery is about getting close. if you want to shoot long distances you might want to hunt with a gun!!!" I don't know why but his statement really hit home with me for some reason. now I seem to get right in the deer's bubble. it has made archery have a whole new challenge and more excitement compared to when I was distancing myself from the game.
When my daughter was in first grade my wife and I went to the first conference with her teacher. The teacher showed us our daughters journal in the journal was a drawing of her favorite memory of her life so far. Her favorite memory was butchering chickens with her Dad.
I wish everyone had a chance to experience something like this. Killing your own food keeps you grounded to the reality of where your food comes from and what it takes to get it. Honestly I was surprised they were all able to do it.
