Are you planning on hunting over this plot or is this going to be just for nutrition for the deer?

Brassicas or a good cereal grain mix is the two best plots I have hunted over.

Also vote for brassicas but another good food would be buck forage oats or a winter rye of some kind.

Soybeans are amazing early and late season. Turnips are the same way. Clover and chicory are among some favorites of mine. I have about 100 acres of plots here in Illinois and I'd say the deer hit the clover ,alfalfa ,chicory plots the most all season. Turnips are usually only good if you get really cold weather and snow during season. It make s them sweet to the taste after a hard frost.

clover-chicory always a great idea...Another is to plant soybeans and then just before they start to yellow broadcast cereal grains,(i use rye for the soil benefits and deer love it) radishes and crimson clover in it..Once the leaves are brown and the beans become favorable to the deer you will also have a nice mixture of winter greens and radishes for them to eat also..This always works great for me and is a super attractant. It really helps condition your soil for nest springs planting by adding Nitrogen back into the soil and the radishes will help with bringin moisture up to the surface as their roots are very very deep.
