So, a buddy of mine has a Katadyn Hiker Pro that he has never used. I'm going to borrow it and see how I like it.

Bringing 'steeping balls' to a camp is even gayer than showing up in a prius. :D

You could dehydrate some of that sunshine squash. It's good. High in vitamin C and A and plenty of calories. Lots of fiber too... which can be good, or bad, depending.

We bought a bunch of bars called SOS bars. They're tasty and don't make you thirsty. We keep them around for the zombie apocalypse. They'd go good with tea. LOL 3600 Calorie S.O.S. Food Bars
A pack of them would be good back-up food for your trip.

I have the Katadyn Hiker.... but haven't ever used it. I do take some of those little pour-in water flavorings with me in case I have to use it but the water still tastes like butt. Of course, I guess I could just carry around some steeping balls instead........

We always take honey, PB, bagels, pre cooked bacon, jerky, crackers with pieces of pepperoni are really good too. Can't hardly beat the mountain house meals as far as an Ok tasting warm meal. Good luck sounds like a fun trip to take.

I figured someone would say something about the steeping balls, I just didn't expect it to be you. Well, actually, I did.

I thought about dehydrating some sunshine squash, but didn't know if it would hold together. Butternut may be easier to make "chips" out of, as it slices easy.

Holy crap on the SOS bars. They're actually tasty?

You didn't try out the Katadyn on your elk hunt? Did you just eat snow?

We brought bottled water. Some of which promptly froze. Oops. Our 'camp' was right we parked the truck and trailer. :)

Clif bars? How do you eat those things?

My wife talked me into buying some for last years trip to Ohio. I couldn't eat them and the other guys at camp couldn't either. :)

They are terrible. The only bar in that class I can eat are the peanut butter and honey bars from Stinger. They actually taste great.

Clif bars are edible but far from good. Stingers are ok. Quaker Chewy bars are like a mini slice of heaven every time you tear one open. 100cal/.84 ozs easily fits the golden rule of 100cal/oz rule too!

I'm granola-d out. Ate way to many of them in the past. I'm a terribly picky eater when it comes to packing food, lol.

Maybe it's just a southern thing, but I always take some of these when I'm camping. No cans and no refrigeration required.

Any other suggestions for breakfasts? Oatmeal makes me gag, especially the ones with fruit chunks in them.

I've never had a clif bar but I did buy some Detour protein bars..... they're great to keep around as emergency food. Mostly because there's no way you'd eat them unless it was an emergency.

I ate oatmeal and/or protein bars for camp breakfast. I don't like oatmeal but it's warm.

I was in Alberta elk hunting once and on a spike camp we had apple flavored instant oatmeal for breakfast. I got an apple chunk in my mouth and I almost hurled. Even though it was the only breakfast food we had, I couldn't eat it.

I've packed in bagels before - they last forever and taste decent.... Bring a little PB to spread on the top....

I'm not a big breakfast guy. I usually just eat a few granola bars mid morning.... but bagels/peanut butter are high cal easily packable food. Some of the dehydrated egg products actually aren't near as bad as they sound either.

Dan you can make a trail mix type to serve as a breakfast. I like to get granola from Publix and pick up some raisins and the dehydrated cranberries and mix those up and take a few baggies for camping or long hikes. Tasty and fills you up and light to pack in.
