Block cheese sealed in wax and summer sausage will keep just fine in those kind of temps as long as you keep them out of the sun. Instant Oatmeal, Cliff bars, Jerkey, Mac and Cheese, Ramen Noodles, Bagel Thins, StarKist Tuna salad in flavor fresh pouch, Cache Lake soups, Kool-aid single serving packets.

I have a fair amount of experience w. lightweight food packing from tripping in the boundary waters for a week at a time.

Cream corn and baked beans, both cook great over a fire.

Not a dumb question. I've hunted this area across this lake since 2003 or 2004. The farthest I've made it in is about 2.5 miles from the boat. Our plan is to walk straight into that furthest area I've hunted and then set up base camp. From there we'll hunt any direction we want and hit new areas that we have never been to. Is there great hunting closer to main camp where I can stay warm and sleep in a cabin? Sure, but I like the adventure of seeing new things that I've never seen before.

For a shorelunch, yes. But, I'm not carrying canned goods into the bush.

Good call. I don't want the raging ****s out there. Then again, if the water purifier fails to purify, I'll be drinking beaver piss and ****.

Take some iodine water purification tablets as a backup for your filter. They don't weight that much, it's all I use up in the boundary waters.

Is the water relatively clear? Flowing?

Stove top stuffing is also a good lightweight choice to go with your tuna packets. You used to be able to get chicken in a packet as well, I haven't seen it in a while though. We used to do stove top stuffing, packet chicken and a packet of gravy mix. mix the chicken and gravy together and top the stuffing. It's pretty good.

Doubtful there will be much flowing water where we're at. There's not much for flowing water up there, except rivers and streams that flow from one beaver pond to the next beaver pond to a lake or river. There may be a couple high mossy areas in the rock with spring fed "ponds." Ponds would be a loose term, as they may be only 5-10' across.

Similar to the one in the picture on the previous page, just a bit bigger. I'm not concerned about the pack, as I will only use it to carry in and out and also to pack a deer out with. I have a day pack I'll use for hunting from the campsite.

There really isn't much out there that will suit you better than mountain house. I tried Alipine Aire and hated it, personal preferences. We do carry a product now called Ovaeasy. Powdered eggs but they are phenomenal. Freeze dried fruites can be a great addition to oatmeal in the mornings, too.

I really like to make "tea" with pine noodles, good stuff. Like Trevor mentioned, plan on a bacon, PB, and honey on a bagel or tortilla. Will last for days and has a stupid amount of protein. Don't forget the honey! I would also toss in a small container of salt and pepper in case you get a few grouse.

Are you having to pack in water? Having water at camp can open a lot more avenues as well. We carry another product called Shore Lunch. They make a pouch of soup mix, just add 4 cups of water. Great stuff, I make it for dinner sometimes.

    Sounds like a badass hunt!

Thanks Dave. Got any links to the Ovaeasy?

I was planning on trying the balsam needle tea while out there. I've heard its very good and is very high in vitamin C.

We won't be able to pack in much water, so we will have to purify a fair amount while out there.

Thanks again. I was looking at getting the Katadyn portable one so I can fill up my drinking water while out during the day.
