I'm just getting into planting food plots and was wondering what some good combinations of brands are good .
Complicated question, depends on lots of factors. Where are you, what do you want to accomplish, what is your skill level of growing stuff and what equipment do you have. Clovers and alfalfa are good and they are generally easy but it can get a lot more complicated than that.
I live in central Oklahoma planted winter wheat and winter peas in September they are both doing great.
Like others have said that's a complicated question for a very broad topic. For me, my plots are small. All are under a 1/3 of an acre. I break them in the first year by planting winter rye, oats, red clover, and radishes in late August. Once spring rolls around I mow it down and spray to kill everything but the clover. Once August is here I will disc this under and plant turnips, rape, and radishes. I just keep rotating through that as the years go on. All seed is bought at my local seed store for 1/2 the price as name brand stuff. If your plots are a little bigger, you can incorporate different stuff and get more creative. I will be putting in a small micro plot this off season (50 yards x 50 yards), and may just use white clover for it as getting back to it will be difficult. I almost love planning and planting food plots now as much as I do hunting over them. Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
So true about as much fun planting and planning the hunt as the hunt. (but eating the results of the hunt may be a little bit better!)
