Food Plot Question...What to do this year?

I've got a small kill plot that I'm wanting to put Frosty Berseem Clover and Fixation Balansa Clover in along with a few other things....If I wait and plant it in the Late Part of August, will it be up and ready for the deer around 1st of October...
Or do I plant it now this spring, and maintain it throughout the year until season starts....

Which way would work better...??

Both annual clovers so they are fast and short lived...I'd go with fall planting. I hate fall planting food plots because of planting conditions and rainfall but clovers like those probably won't amount to much if planted in spring to go through summer. Once they bloom, they are pretty much done and I doubt you can keep them from blooming all summer.

Alternative is to plant twice, spring and summer for fall food plot. You may get some natural reseeding from a spring planted plot but it's not predictable or reliable.

I've got Azurri Rye in it right now, so I guess I'll either put in a Plow down clover or something of value for the deer, and then plant the clovers I was speaking of with some more rye, peas, and oats in the fall....I've planted all the Turnips, Rape, Collards, Radishes, etcs before during the fall...but the Deer around here don't touch it until it's too late for hunting...Usually end of December thru Feb, and they tear it up then....I need them in there October/November time frame

 

Yeah the brassicas are a mixed bag. They seem to work far better as a conservative part of a diverse mix rich in legumes and cereal grasses. I had a five acre plot last fall with forage brassica, turnips, rape, red and white clovers and vetch and deer hammered that plot all fall and are still hammering what's left of it.
I'm doing mustard, oats, peas and sanfoin this spring on a number of acres. I'm extremely interested in the sanfoin right now because of the bugging habitat for the upland birds, honey bee forage and non bloat features of it for grazers. I think it's going to be very hard to beat for a multi-purpose mix.
