What is a good seed to plant where the soil is very very wet during the spring and fall? I'm wanting to plant turnips and beans do you guys think that's a good type of plant to plant in wet soil and the soil has lots of clay about 7 inches deep. What are your guys thoughts on planting in this wet clayie soil?
Turnips are cool weather plants for the most part and beans will likely rot before they germinate in that type of soil. Clovers are probably the safest bet in that case as most forage crops hate wet feet.
Ok thanks for opinion, I'll probably do clover than! Do you have an opinions on which brand of clover seed to use or what works better? Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
Also when should clover be plant? I live in Ontario. If that has anything to do with planting date! Sent from my iPod touch using Tapatalk
It can be spring planted here but typical recommendation is fall planting in September here. It can be frost seeded as well. I really don't know about your area just because it's so far away from me. Should be able to find some info online or if you have any local universities with agriculture departments or local agronomists.
If you plant the clover in the fall, mix in some oats or peas to help nurse the young clover along and will provide something other than the clover to take the brunt of the browsing.
Do you have a local Ag Feed store? I dont use those so I wouldnt know but an Ag store would be a good place to start.
Greencoverseed.com They have most anything and will mix it for you. They also have a product calculator to give you stats on the mix.
