Hey guys. Avid rifle hunter here finally coming around to Bow Hunting. I am strictly in research mode trying to learn about the sport before ponying up for a bow. Looking forward to reading up and hopefully contributing at some point as well. I promise I'll research and read before asking the same questions that have been asked a thousand times already.
Welcome aboard. I used to be an avid gun hunter too. Once you've sat in the stand, bow in hand and experienced wildlife walking past without a clue you are anywhere around, you'll be hooked too.
Welcome fellow Carolinian! Go ahead and go buy you a used bow, practice up until next (2013-2014) season, learn as much as you can on here and enjoy a whole different world of hunting!! As a hunter let me just say thank you for finding a source of information and being responsible before grabbing a bow, hitting a pie plate at 15yd and trying to stick deer in the woods! Says a lot about you as as a first impression goes! What part of NC are you from? I'm from Rowan County!
Tyler, we are pretty much in the same boat i guess. I am new to bowhunting although I already got a setup. Loving it! I am actually down in Onslow County and getting ready to move to Madrid, Spain where I will not be allowed to bring firearms with me do to Spanish laws. Once you start shooting a bow I am sure you will love bud. I also grew up hunting with guns but, since i got my bow I it a whole new experience. I have yet to get my first kill with it and I am looking forward to it and sharing with yall. Look forward to being more active on here and learning from you seasoned bow enthusiasts!!!
That's my plan exactly. regardless if I make my purchase in time or not I am not bow hunting this year. So it'll be me and the 270 "this" season. lol. I absolutely love hunting and have the utmost respect for deer. To me it's an injustice to go out unprepared and chance just wounding an animal. I'm not going to halfway do anything. I will definitely get a ton of shooting in before I even try to take a deer with a bow. I'm in Forsyth county. Kernersville to be specific. It's between Winston Salem and Greensboro. I stopped in at the Big buck expo this weekend and spent a lot of time with the guys at ButterMilk Creek outfitters. Really nice bunch. Will stop by and get sized up and just shoot a bunch of different gear to see what fits and feels the best and that I am most comfortable with. One challenge I have is that I am right handed but left eye dominate so everything I shoot is left handed. Rifle shooting is not too much of a challenge other than how the round ejects. So I am anxious to see how I do using my "weak" side to draw back the bow. Anyone else have this issue and if so I would appreciate any feedback on how you worked around it. Again guys, thanks a ton for the warm welcoming. Looks like I definitely found the right place.
well after a ton of reading this week I went by my local shop (ButterMilk Creek Outfitters). met a few of them at the Big Buck expo this weekend. They were super nice and tolerated all the typical FNG questions I hit them with. They had actually just taken in a Bowtech Guardian LH in on trade. I was concerned with being RH if I would be able to pull enough draw weight with my left side and it went surprisingly well. Granted I am a pretty big guy at 6'3 315 lol. They priced it at $400 OTD with rest and sights. I am pretty happy with it and will probably pick it up tomorrow. I know I could probably find it a little cheaper online but I really wanted to develop that relationship with them if possible. I cannot say enough about how much info is available here. I've learned a ton this week and cannot wait to dig in even more now that I am going to start shooting. I am still not going to hunt this year with it although I am sure the urge will be strong. Going to set up a stand at the house and practice at several different distances this year and try to be ready for next year. Thanks again guys.
I will also add that the wife is on board as well. She loves target shooting and we are getting her a Hoyt Ruckus. She's thrilled. We'll probably try to get involved in as many shoots as possible as well. Flat out digging this addiction already.
Welcome aboard! I'm right cross the K'vegas/Winston line so if you ever need some local help or just wanna shoot a few feel free to reach out.
Right there by the high school I went to, it sounds. I'm just round the corner off K'ville Rd. Probably walked right passed each other a hundred times in town.
Probably have. too funny. Will definitely shoot you a message and try to do some shooting. Picked up my bow today. DL was a little too short so they had to order another mod. It's shootable now and will start messing around a bit but it'll take about a week for it to arrive.
