You did hint that you would send me some feathers. The longer neck hackles from a rooster are what I could really use, especially the barred ones...if you feel like sending some.
I do? Oops. This getting old is hell. What size? HNI shirt. or BH.com? :D Matt, I don't have rooster chicken hackle feathers. Only hens here. I plan on buying some barred rock cockrels and de-nutting them. I hear they will still grow nice hackle and saddle feathers. We'll see. If it works I'll send you some. What I do have are chukar flank feathers, hungarian partridge feathers, wild turkey feathers and pheasant feathers.
Matt, I use a Griffin Mongoose. Its not the greatest vise in the world, but it holds hooks of all sizes well. There are a lot of fancy vises out there. A lot of them have features that are nice, but the jaws are the #1 thing in my opinion. I need something that can hold a hook from #18 all the way to 5/0. You can spend $80 on a vise and tie just as well as you could on a $300 vise. The vise in the photos is an old one I just keep around for photo purposes.
I should be able to get some shirts from the Head Dudes at the Deer Classic. I can send them out after that. Back to the topic.
Hey...if you're needing some tying materials I was planning on doing a little manscaping this evening. Want me to send you some of the clippings?
Sweet flies Vito, you just got me thinking that I need to pull out the Redington 4wt. and rediscover a love I lost years ago
Im glad you tied more than one El Vito, cause I would have hated to say I like your Fly very nice looking critters Mr.
That was my question too. Fly-fishing for Muskie must be awesome. I bet I could use the steel leader for Stripers on the Chesapeake. Never thought about using such a high poundage mono on trout but I guess that would enhance the action when ripping streamers and woolies along. Nice pics.
The heavy mono and coated wire is used to attach the hooks on the flies. Most of the flies I posted have 2 or 3 hooks. When fishing, I like to use 12# or 15# fluoro for trout. The heavier line doesn't bother them when fishing that way. If they want to eat it, they will eat it. For musky, I like to use surflon as a bite leader. Its fairly soft compared to the other options, so the fly gets better action. And yes, fly fishing for musky is awesome. They are hands down my favorite fish.
