After playing around with the pan head that came with my Lone Wolf camera arm I am thinking I want to change it. I am thinking I want to go with the Vanguard PH-123V Magnesium Alloy Fluid Head. Anyone have any experiences with this head, good or bad? Also, does this bolt up directly to the camera arm? Or is there some sort of bracket that needs to be used? Thanks for the help guys!

    No one?

What about the Manfrotto MVH500AH Fluid Video Head? These are the two I'm trying to decide between.

I can't tell you anything about the Vanguard. The Manfrotto MVH500 is the replacement for the 701HDV head, which is what I have. It's a good head, and handles my Canon XHA1S just fine. I'm sure the 500 is just as good as better, so I would say you would be happy with it.

Thanks man, appreciate the help! I hear such great things about Manfrotto Heads it's just that it seems a lot bigger and bulkier than the Vanguard, like its made to handle a lot heavier equipment than what I will be running

Love my manfrotto 701HDV. If I treat it well I'm hoping to use this head for a long long long time. Works great on my muddy arm as well.

I also have the 701Hdv and it is awesome! Can only assume the new version is better!

Thanks guys! Seems like I can't go wrong with the Manfrotto.....will it bolt right up to my lone wolf camera arm? or do I need some type of connector plate?

It has been a long time since I owned a LW arm, but if I recall, the existing LW arm and head uses a 1/4-20 bolt or 5/16-18. I seem to recall having to modify the arm for the 3/8-16 bolt that is standard on a Manfrotto and other heads. But I could be wrong. I haven't had a LW arm since probably 2008 or 2009. That head that comes with the LW arm is pretty crappy though and you will benefit greatly from replacing it with a good head.

Here are some old photos of my LW arm that I modified to mount an older Manfrotto head. I welded an aluminum disk on the end of the arm to help support the load better. I also added a middle section that you can buy from LW for more reach. This setup worked pretty slick for that small HV30 that I had at the time. I sold it a few years ago when I went to bigger equipment.

DEC, thats sweet! Thats exactly what I'm talking about, the disc you welded on it. Do I need something like that or would the head bolt up directly to just the arm..this is my current concern. Gunna see if Manfrotto sells something like that. Like you I want it to be as sturdy as possible also.

Manfrotto 128rc, the 701 is too big.

I just replaced my 701 with the newest MVH500AH. Love it.

Sorry no info on the lw arm.

Does this head have adjustable drag for pans and tilts? Do you adjust the drag with the locking screw? Just trying to figure out if this would make more sense than the MVH500AH head

Yes it has both tilt and pan. It has a wing but style adjustment, one for each. It works great. I can pan it down towards the ground or up in the sky and it holds in place when I remove my hands. Super smooth, super cost effective, it's a manfrotto I wouldn't expect anything less.

Look on Amazon, they have it pretty cheap. I've also seen several on eBay.
