I have never tried them but something has got me wanting to try squirrel hunting this season with them. I have a bitz fletcher. can I fletch them up with my bitz? Do you normally go three or four fletch?? Looks like 4 would have more drag to slow it down more so they dont get away from me. I gave up squirrel hunting years ago but this sparks my interest.

This is a pretty cool way to make Flu Flu's, they sure do slow down quick with the spiral fletch! I made my own from the feathers of the Tom I killed last spring!

I've fletched up quite a few. Best way to go for compounds is a six fletch (3 fletch then offset and go 3 fletch again). I keep them a little shorter (4" vs. 5") so that they don't get up into the rest when they're nocked on some shorter brace height bows with set back rests. You've got to fletch them farther forward on the shaft than normal so that you aren't eating feather in the side of your face when you anchor. They don't really effect the shot but they do make the arrow easier to find. Here's a 4 fletch one we were clowning around with trying to shoot birds. [IMG]

It's a secret weapon. I could tell ya but then we'd have to kill ya!:deer:

Ahhh... You wouldn't be safe using it down there anyway. It's a deer hat. Damn things will let you walk right up to them if they're uphill from you and you go straight at them. Had a doe run up to within 10 yards on this hunt and a young buck sneak in from behind to within 8 yards.

It was asked in the original post if you can use a Bitz to fletch the flu flu's? I was wondering the same thing.

One more question about that hat... I dare ask, did you make that or buy it that way?

You can use the Bitz for Flu-Flu's. You just matte the feather down as you put it in the clamp. You may have to reduce the length from 5" to 4" and set it forward in the clamp farther than normal becasue the longer feathers matte down farther back toward the nock. Best thing to do is fletch it 3 fletch and then offset it and fletch it again in between the 1st set so that you end up with a 6 fletch.

I made the hat based on ones I had seen used by staffers on Bowhunting TV on a show they did here in Kodiak.
