We went to san diego in june and it was 70' s compared to 90 at home. We about froze.

    This is where we stayed.

The water was cold as well but stayed in a nice resort with a private beach with 5 pools and walked to sea world. Rented a car and drove to Disney.

That's one of the best things about southern Cali... The weather is very stable... Winter highs in the mid/upper 60s to low 70's. Summer highs in the low to mid 80s.

Here every year we get sub zero to mid 90's. Heck of a swing.

I agree, the water will be cold about anywhere except the far south.

Not getting much more South than San Diedo in Cali :) Plus that is driving distance to Long Beach and LA (maybe 2 hours to long beach, maybe 3 to LA) if you wanted to check them out.

I've been in Orange County about 6 times in the last 3 months. It's roughly 70 miles north of San Diego. The daytime temps have been 60 to low 80's. The water temps I'm sure are cooler though as all the surfers are wearing wetsuits.

We drove to LA (Anaheim) seems like it was just a couple hours but the water is cold.

The warmest water to find on US soil in Janurary is probably Key West.

Florida also has awesome history to it. Lot's to do there if you are into that. Would be tough from Key West though.

I've done alot in Florida over the years. Alot of family in the Tampa area but never did the keys.

St Agustine is a great place to visit if you're into history.

Ok, so if Jill wants warm water at that time of the year we should look at Mexico or the Caribbean? That's what I'm gathering.

With the kids, I would assume Mexico would be quite a bit less expensive too.

We'll do the Disney thing one year too. Maybe next year or the year after.

If you want warm ocean water then yes.

The swim parks in and around Disney are pretty cool. We swam with sharks the last time we were there.

Cruises don't interest either one of us at all.

I've done Dominican Republic, Grand Cayman, Bahamas, and Aruba. If you don't mind the longer flights and higher cost the weather and water in these areas will be MUCH warmer than Florida or SoCal.

If I had to pick one I'd say Aruba is my favorite. The weather and culture was fantastic. I actually felt safe outside of the resort and there was a lot of cool stuff to do on the island. We brought our son last week and he had a blast. I don't think I'd bring children anywhere else, they just don't seem safe outside of the resorts. Atlantis in Bahamas was nice for kids, but I'm guessing if you don't like chain restaurants you wouldn't like that environment................it felt almost like a carnival at times.

Lol, I'll eat at chain restaurants just as much as everyone else, I just think they are overrated.

I'm not big on resort type places. I like to get out and see other scenery and no just what's on the resort property.

I don't know that I want to be hopping from plane to plane with the kids at 5 and 8 years old. Gah, I have no idea what we're going to do.
