Where in the heck are they getting all this money? Signed Reyes, Heath Bell, and now have an offer to Pujols for 10 years! This is crazy, I actually hope the Cardinals don't match that offer. Any team that signs a 32 year old to a guaranteed 10 year deal is insane!
I can't believe what's going on with the marlins. 10 year deal to pujlos? WOW! I really think he's taking that and running. Who else is going to offer that to a 32 year old? Not sure where this money is coming from.
Money isn't an issue for most Pro Sports ownership, it's just a matter of if they want to give it up. Recent move to Miami and they are trying to revamp the team into a perennial winner. I like it personally. I don't like the Pujols offer, but the other pickups were great. I'd go for another pitcher or two with all of the kings gold they are offering to Pujols.
Marlins are trying to be the new Yankees. They sayed from the beginning with the move to Miami that they would spend what it took to put a team on the field. Pujols will go with that crazy offer. It was a good run with the Redbirds, but I'm going to sit back and watch his numbers decline rapidly by year 5 and then watch him bounce around from team to team while the Marlins eat his contract.
I agree with the pitching (see Yankees and Red Sox). Not a lot of top notch arms on the market this year though. I think CJ Wilson is the "grand prize" free agent SP this year.
Yeah I agree not many pitchers are available, but I also see the flip side of the pitching argument. The Phillies went all in on pitchers with their dream lineup of arms, and look where that got them. In the end, its putting points on the board that wins the games. All of this, and I am definitely an outsider looking in when it comes to baseball. I know very little to nothing about the sport and how it operates, I just know most of the big time players. lol
T I was shocked by that to be honest. Didn't see any way they could lose a 7 game series seeing Halladay and Lee multiple times with a line up that on paper could put runs on the board.
Bolded part confirms bottom part of quote. My high school girlfriend called runs points and that probably costed her a shot at getting hitched with me and ultimately my seed.
It looks like they got their pitcher. The Miami Marlins have signed left-handed pitcher Mark Buehrle to a four-year, $58 million deal, according to sources. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...-four-year-58-million-contract-details-120711
3 or 4 years and Pujols is probably done. NO way would I give the guy 10 years. I know... I know.... that's what it takes to get him... so I'm saying.... he's not worth it at the 10 year plan. If someone would just say "NO" to this insanity it would end. Offer the guy 30 million a year for 3 or 4 years(incentive based) and be done with it. I just saw on ESPN that the Marlins appear to be backing off this fight for Pujols and are making other offers going for pitchers. Still dishing out a lot of money.... last count 190 million.
Pujols has informed the Marlins that they are out of the Pujols game, but they are still probably after Fielder or C.J. Wilson. It appears that the Cubs, Angels, and Cardinals all have 10 year 200 mil offers out to Pujols. It will probably average out to 22 mil a year, which isn't as outrageous as some deals in years past...
Got a question why is there little perceived interest in Fielder? He is younger than Pujols and has not declined the last couple of years?
Pujols is considered 1a, while Fielder is 1b. Once Pujols signs, the market for Fielder will heat up. I think it would be interesting to see Fielder in D.C. next season. Add him with Zimmerman, Werth, and Harper and you have a great 3-6 for a lineup.
anything is possible in south florida... but the track record that marlins has is that they will get ride off everyone after the win. Then rebuild with some nobody. Heck already happen twice plus they have a new stadium so they need the top names
