I used to have an '86 CR 500. Incredible machines. I think you'd change the back tire 10 times before it ever needed a front tire. Definitely not something you kicked over with tennis shoes on. 5 gears, on top end in 5th gear it would speed wobble BAD, went up two teeth on the rear sprocket just to reel it in a bit. I got pulled over one time out camping in my young and dumb late teens, I had just pulled off a trail onto the main gravel county road and when I hit 2nd it pulled the front tire up. I went with it and was burping the throttle to keep the front tire up, and right as I got to the top end of 2nd gear and grabbed 3rd a county deputy came around the corner. Of course my first thought was to just lose him when he hit his lights, but it was the beginning of the weekend and I didn't want to park it the rest of the weekend. First thing he asked was if I knew how fast I was going, I said maybe 30 since I was just hitting the top end of 2nd gear. He was pretty worked up and nearly shouted, "NO, YOU WERE DOING 42 MPH ON ONE TIRE!!". I was impressed it went that fast in 2nd gear...he on the other hand wasn't impressed at all. Only gave me a lecture and let me go though.
I built a cr500 in an ‘04 aluminum frame. Port job, decked cylinder and head, bore, bridge relief. It’s fast.
My oldest was conceived while on vacation in the Bahamas. I used to joke that we should tattoo "Made in the Bahamas" on his butt when he was born.
