Interesting side bar...link at bottom, that is stuck on loop in my brain, given the cyber story...

For one of the largest spills, local news was greatly underwhelming on this story...though the site was effectively guarded 24x7 for weeks.

That is insanity! A leak since August and they still don’t know how much really spilled. And I never heard about it before. This should be all over msm. So why isn’t it?

    Did it years ago.

Infrastructure vulnerabilities have been a stress point for folks in the know. We are equated to old men shouting at the clouds by corporate bean counters espousing the bottom line. There is no accounting the possible impacts, because equating that possibility of exploit is hard to put to numbers until after the exploit is a reality. We are so far behind the curve that it is nothing short of scary.

Would you recommend it now? I have been semi seriously looking into it over the last month. Then all of a sudden this happens.

Simply put, yes. Even with automation and the buzz word AI floating around, shaping and implementing policy and security postures, will remain a human input to an extent. Plus relaying that info to stakeholders and management in a coherent fashion will remain a human function for a long time. If you are a vet, you can get most certifications paid in full by your GI bill. Or, if not, most companies pay for those via education reimbursement. I love what I do and it will remain in demand in some aspects for another 20 years at least imo. Plus your looking at 60 to 110k per year with no degree, which ain't a bad deal.

To put it into perspective 1 gallon of gasoline will contaminate 1 million gallons of water beyond drinking water standards.
