my next dog. Assuming my current older dog lives another 7 years, I should be able to get a GSP just before I retire so I will have plenty of time to train and run/hunt him. (assuming a lot of things; but that's the plan.)
I couldn't close this one before my wife saw me laughing at it. This is what a cast iron pan can do when in the hands of a woman with no sense of humor!
I have a 13 year old GSP. They are great dogs but very high energy until about 10 years old. It is a lot like having a rambunctious three-year-old. They need a lot of engagement and room to run outside or they will not be a good inside dog. I started training mine to hunt and then my wife became pregnant with our oldest. The dog became a family dog after that. I just didn't have time to train once we had young kids. I would have another one in a heart beat as long as I had time to train her to hunt.
^^^ When I had my GSP she was really a great bird dog and a joy to hunt behind. Then I started bowhunting for deer more and more. My dog did not understand why she couldn't go with me when she saw me leave with my hunting clothes on. I felt pretty bad. This is why I don't have one anymore.
