    I had it happen to me in the '70's at a drag strip. I was fortunate enough to have a scatter shield. 401 4-speed in a Gremlin, 7200 rpm shift to second gear. Made a huge mess!

    65 GTO. 389 bored and stroked. Hurst 4 speed.
    7100 rpm, 2nd to 3rd.... almost!

    Those scatter shields were life savers!!!!!

    Usually it’s the engineer or some schmuck that drives through wet paint, but one time a bird landed on freshly painted markings we had finished and left little footprints everywhere. Its funny now, but man it sucks when stuff like that happens!
