    I've seen it more times than I care to admit. Or ventilated ridge installed on a 3/12 pitch.. "you say the leak mirrors your ridgeline on the ceiling, no kidding.."

    Obviously that was done by an amateur DIY’er. A professional DIY’er would’ve known to seal that style of penetration with flex-seal. If they were really thorough they would’ve used the pourable flex-seal and combined it with an old coffee can because a pitch pocket is hands down the best way to seal a penetration on a sloped shingle roof.

    At least they knew that the whole ridge cap/prevailing wind thing is just an old wives tale and the proper way to do it is to start at each end of the ridge and meet in the middle. That’s an important detail because if the roof ever starts to bow up in the middle, the ridge cap will still shed water.
