Lottery tickets are a tax on the naive.

I hear you Sota. They are also a source of many cheap daydreams. I’ve spent a lot more money on drinking in my day and have nothing more than a bunch of hangovers to show for it. I enjoy daydreams more.

Yea then get them ppl that just stand there and scratch them off then get more. Usually when there's a pretty good line waiting.

No kidding we have a local guy that sits in one of the gas stations almost all day every day and buys scratch off tickets. And has for at least as long as i can remember, 30 yrs easy. He used to pretty much sign over his paychecks to the gas station to pay for them. I'm not exaggerating at all that he's probably spent 1m easily. And I don't think he's ever even really won "big," think I've heard biggest win was maybe 20k.

I have bought a powerball ticket in the past, like you said the day dream can be pleasant until you do not match a single number and it feels like fate is laughing right at you.

My dad won $100k on a $10 scratch off. After taxes he pocketed $70k. I could buy $100k in scratchers and win $10..

I have never won a raffle, drawing, etc. If I didn't have disappointments I would not have any appointments at all.

Funny you say that about raffles. I've never won a dang thing at raffles. So a couple years back at a NWTF dinner I buy a book of tickets and my thoughts are "well you made your donation" so I saw a kid that didnt have any tickets and on a whim just tossed him the book and said good luck. 300 ppl in attendance, some people bought as many as 4 or 5 books... the kid wins a Remington 870 Wingmaster Express NWTF Edition, a Taurus Judge and a Ruger 77/22. If I had kept the book I can guarantee I would have not won.

one thing IL has done right- installed lottery dispensing machines. I have to get gas receipts for my work car and at least once a week the receipt fails to print at the pump. Invariably it's the first of the month and the line is out the door...but the lottery dispensing machines have alleviated that a bit.

my step grandmother used to win pic 3s and 4s all the time on the Michigan lotto. My grandpa said she won on average almost as much per year as her GM retirement checks which she had 30+ years in so I'm sure she was doing pretty good there also.

I'm lucky to match 2 numbers out of 6.

Went to the IGOLD(IL gun owner lobby day) rally herr for the first time several years ago. Entered my first ever gun raffle, bought 3 tickets for $25. Guy walked off as I was filling them out, seen another guy selling them and he ssid they were not for his raffle. Summed it up to another $25 donation when he said there's the guy you need. Gave him the tickets and thought nothing of it after.

Couple days later my phone rings and don't recognize the number. Usually don't answer if I don't know who it is, but answered that time. Couldn't understand a word they were saying, something about Rural King and an item I purchased. I finally just said, I don't have a clue what you are talking about. I didn't order anything from Rural King they dialed the wrong number. Then she slows down and said this is xxxx from Pawn King, you entered a raffle at the gun rally and we drew your name first. I went from disgruntled to elated in about 20 seconds

Had a choice of one of 6 different .22 handguns, 1 of 3 Smith & Wesson 9mm Shield or a S&W M&P Tactical Ar-15. Almost took a shield as I had just built an AR, but opted for the AR instead. Paid the $2 NICS fee 25 hours later and walked out with the best $27 I have spent. Granted this was after Sandy Hook and the big ban scare but
