Kinda funny a guy I worked with and mentored and was a good friend recently got hired as a fire program muckily muck, he asked me about what to do about retention and why the program is losing experienced firefighters with rank. I spent 15 minutes explaining exactly what the problem was and the solution. He appreciated my input and said that while everything I said was true he could not use any of what I identified as the problem even if he eliminated all the f words. I said well there is your problem, sometimes you have to burn it down and rebuild on an improved foundation.
