Fletched up some arrows this afternoon and did alot if shooting this evening (shoulder is now on strike) trying to decide what vanes I wanted to shoot with the new set up. I used Bohning Heat vanes , 4 Fletch right helical Bohning Blazer X2 , 4 Fletch right helical Q2i Raptor-II , 3 Fletch right Helical. The Bohning Heat gave the best groups and least noise The Q2i grouped well and were significantly quieter than the regular Blazer vanes. The Blazer X2 grouped pretty well but seemed as loud as the regular Blazers. The difference in material I think makes the biggest difference in the noise , the Heat and Q1 vanes are significantly stiffer. I didn't fletch the Q2 vanes 4 Fletch because they are higher profile and I don't want to cut it that close. . Anyone wanting to shoot a great vane that seems to steer very well needs to try the Bohning Heat vanes. I think that the 4 vane way more than makes up for the lower profile as well as the slightly longer profile but they are definitely a rigid quiet vane.
Ill keep the Heat in mind when I build my next set of arrows for my compound. So far Ive only used my current fletching jig with feathers.
After trying over a dozen vanes my arrows have: FlexFletch FFP-360 Trueflight 4" shield cut feathers (since 1975)....they steer my BH the best.
