It looks cooler than regular fletching.

As long as it matches your string color; peep color; stabilizer accents and the writing color on your sight.....it looks great!

I'm guessing....but, my guess would be that it increases drag.

I've never saw that before. More rotations possibly?

Jessie Morehead swears by this kind of fletching... Jessie has several world titles to his name and holds records in long-distance shooting. I've heard him proclaim its advantages, but couldn't recite them here to explain it in enough detail...

I've heard it makes the fletching more effective. There is less air turbulance at the rear of the arrow when the vanes are spread out like. This allows each vane to have maximum air contact getting maximum control from the fletching.

Sounds possible, but I guess it has really never caught on.

I am thinking that if I want more effective fletching I just get the next bigger size.

    = creates more drag.

Only thing I can think of Bruce......is taller vanes might not work with string/cable clearance. He might be making the best with what he has.

Longer feathers. If I used a 2inch blazer I would go to a 4" feather offset and helical. If I needed more, a 5" feather and so on until I figured out that more drag was not going to fix my problem.

    I'm with you.

But, I sure wouldn't discount his thinking. To me, it sounds (and looks) like it makes sense (if you wanna use that fletching).

I don't discount the thought or the method or results but I also don't think, if there are any advantages at all, that the advantages make more than a tiny bit of difference. I certainly wouldn't realize any of the implied advantages for the type of shooting I do and I think that holds true for most regular archers and bowhunters. On a world class level, tiny advantages can make a difference. At my county class level tiny advantages won't help LOL.
