So I was in need of repairing a few arrows that had some fletches that were starting to peel off so I went to my local sporting goods store and got some NAP quick fletch. I'm one of those people who doesn't buy the product that's hanging in the front in fear that someone messed with it (OCD I guess) so I grabbed the second one on the rack and left. After peeling and cleaning my arrows I dipped and dried the new fletching. Awesome. As I was admiring my work I noticed the fletching looked smaller than normal, same length, but not as wide. I checked the package and dummy me bought crossbow fletching by accident. I tried checking a few places online and everything talks about length but not much about width. Should I be ok shooting this? Is this a safety hazard or more just something that will affect my arrow flight? Or am I just an idiot who needs to go back to the store and redo?
I would think as long as you have good adhesion you will be ok. I say that because the crossbow arrow shafts are probably larger diameter, so I would want to make sure everything is stuck well on the shaft. As far as the difference in thickness may just be differences in vane brands comparing those on the Quick Fletch vs the vanes that you had before. Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk 2
The thickness of the fletching doesn't seem much different it just doesn't come very far off the arrow. Each vane probably only extends maybe half an inch off the arrow at the farthest part. I do see what you mean about the shrink wrap though, there is a little folding/overlapping of the sleeve but it appears to be solid and the adhesive seems to be good. I think I will shoot one and see how it goes. If it shoots bad then I will go back and get the right ones. I guess I was mainly concerned with safety, I don't want an arrow through the wrist or to explode on me. Seems doubtful but I just wanted to make sure as I've never made a bonehead move like this with an arrow.
