Last week, I was heading to my cabin for a few days to hunt.
All packed and ready to hit the road.
A buddy needed a ride to get a truck from his hayfield.
Sure, no problem. He brought his new pup with. Also no problem until I looked in the rear view mirror and the little bastard was chewing the fletching off my arrows:rant:.
I was in a hurry. The nearest archery place was 90 miles away and way outta the way.
I called a great friend of mine that lives only 2 miles from my cabin. Hes 78 years old and still hunts with a longbow.
He has a fletching jig but all he had for fletching were 5" turkey feathers.
Hes never done a carbon shift but I was desperate and had him do them.
I'm telling you straight up, they turned out amazing!!!
Had to shoot em before getting in my stand and the flew incredible:hail:.
I've never liked small plastic vanes, the "look" turns me off but seems like thats all available now.
Anywho, next spring, a dozen shafts will be bought and hes gonna Fletch them just as he did.
They had great helical and was just super cool to watch that arrow spinning going downrange.

Glad they work out, small vanes ain’t about the looks. They fly Great, weight less and don’t drag the arrow as much. Buy a fletching jig, there relatively cheap and always good to have on hand. All kill deer just fine, good luck! Give that dog an antler to chew on!

If those bad boys fly better than 2-3" vanes at less than 30 yards it's because you're not tuned or spined correctly.
Seriously on a proper tuned bow 60+ yards should be driving tacks with small vanes. Especially with a 3* helical.

    Do you, though.
